A Case of Spirits by KJ Charles is the #2.5 tie-in novella to their A Charm of Magpies series of m/m alternate-world historical paranormal urban fantasy investigative mystery adventures with romantic elements, all starring a magician and a magical law-enforcer couple in an occult-infested Victorian London, free courtesy of publisher Samhain.

This has a mild 2 out of 5 flames on the heat index over at All Romance eBooks, and the series overall has a medium 3, which usually but not necessarily means a hefty amount of plot in the story alongside the expected romance-y-ness. The first few novels in this series have also been recommended by various members of our own MR Romance + Discussion megathread, who incidentally mentioned at the time that this series is one that needs to be read in order, although this introductory freebie novella can probably be safely tried standalone (YMMV).
