Zom-B by popular YA fantasy/horror author Darren Shan (ISFDB, Wikipedia) is the 1st in his eponymous series of UK-set YA apocalyptic action adventures featuring, you guessed it, teenagers dealing with the collapse of civilization due to zombie incursion, apparently featuring "good" zombies as the heroes, free courtesy of publisher HarperCollins Canada.

This is part of a set of featured 1st-in-series freebie promotions in the iTunes Canada store and one of the handful of non-self-published ones which are also being promoted in other stores.

Currently free @ Amazon & Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (available to Canadians and not in other countries, for obvious reasons).

Because even though I'm not into zombies and have a low likelihood of trying this out of anything besides sheer morbid curiosity, I do appreciate the fact that we are getting a nice multi-store official major publisher promo involving a popular genre author's titles (and long-term-ish, as well, as this has been free for a couple of weeks now), and have also received other installments in the series and are now getting the 1st to start with (if in Canada or able to successfully pretend so, that is).

Description
At first no one believes the images on YouTube are real: zombies devastating Ireland, leaving villages in ruins and mutilated corpses in their wake. Teenager “B Smith” is far more concerned with surviving high school and a volatile home life than an invasion of hungry zombies. But as the carnage spreads across the U.K., B must face a horrifying prospect. While a lucky few may outrun the zombies, many will fall . . . and some will be forced to join the army of the undead.

It was the darkest, most wretched hour of the night when the dead came back to life and spread like a plague of monstrous locusts through the village of Pallaskenry. The lucky ones were slaughtered in their sleep, their skulls ripped open, their brains devoured.

The others suffered a far more terrible fate.

The dead and the undead shared the village for a short, frantic time, but it was a balance made in hell and it could not last. It was clear from the beginning that one side would have to wipe out the other.
