Time to upgrade?
I have been using Glo for years now and I am very happy with it. I know it is identical to Aura H2O software-wise, but are there big improvements in the screen? Big enough to justify an upgrade (I am a student so money is tight)?
And as H20 is water and dust resistant, does it also have better resistance to cold (it is minus -10 degrees celcius out there today; and as the winter sets in, it will go much colder)? That alone would be a reason to upgrade, Glo becomes very slow outdoors. Last edited by GERGE; 01-03-2015 at 12:10 PM. |

Poor cold weather response or can't change to new page is Eink problem.

if you were to sell the Glo, how much would you actually be able to get for it? and how much would a new H2O cost you to purchase?
the dust/water sealing has nothing to do with temperature. it'll likely be just as sluggish as the Glo. but at least the snowflakes won't damage it. the extra 0.8" of screen size isn't that big of a deal, especially if you're using the Glo full-screen (no header / footer). you'd maybe get 3-5 extra lines of text per page? |

If money is tight and you want to upgrade, I'd suggest waiting for a sale.
The screen is somewhat nicer, but you probably wouldn't get much out of it unless you're reading PDF documents. The water/dust resistance is due to a seal around the bezel and power button, as well as a cover over the USB/uSD ports. It won't affect how well it performs in cold environments. The screen's data sheets show no difference for operating temperatures. |

No need to upgrade. The Glo is nearly perfect!

I love my H2O, but if I were you, I wouldn't upgrade yet, either.
Keep your Glo until you're no longer happy with it. You don't need that greener grass, yet. |

I've read GERGE's post 5 times, and nowhere does he mention the Kobo Aura.
He is asking about one unit and how it compares to the one he owns: 1) Kobo Glo [He owns] 2) Kobo Aura H20 GERGE: The H20 is state-of-the-art - screen-wise. Many people are extremely happy with it, and enjoy the larger screen real estate. Remember: 1) Read the reviews and feedback in the threads specific to the Aura H20, located in the Kobo forum. 2) Ask yourself if you can afford this more expensive reader. (You mention that money is tight, so that is a necessary factor to consider.) 3) Examine your reading habits. If you are a heavy reader (as am I), then owning a reader with the best screen is a very important priority for me. Is it a priority for you? 4) Examine the stance of ALL members who respond to your questions. (Look at my biases, as well.) Do some research, and then seek those opinions from the members here. You'll quickly see the different biases present (even mine). The important thing is that you will have done the necessary research (always important, in my opinion); and second, you'll know whose opinions will be truly helpful to you. Unless you have a need (or even want) the slightly bigger screen and water resistance of the H20, I'd keep the Glo as long as it's still working as it should. As already said, you won't get much more text on the Aura H20 in .8" of bigger screen space. And remember the reader will be larger if you normally carry it around with you. And a larger screen might make it a bit more susceptible to flexing and cracking the substrate depending on how careful you normally are with your readers.
For me the Glo is the perfect size. And there won't be any difference in how cold affects either reader, both will slow down some when it's freezing outside. |

I personally love my Aura. I had a Touch for several years and really wanted a lighted e-reader and went with the Aura instead of the Glo. It is, in my opinion, the best e-reader for the money. The slightly darker screen compared to the Touch is easily overcome by simply leaving the light on at all time, adjusting as necessary, which, in my experience, does not adversely affect battery life.

I get a full screen minus about 1 line (the small bit at the top and the small footer). But that's better then most Readers that have a larger margin about the footer. I did patch my H2O to get it like that. Last edited by JSWolf; 01-06-2015 at 02:04 PM. |

I upgraded my Glo to an H2O, but only because I had the extra cash. If I needed that disposable income elsewhere, I would not have found it necessary. The difference in screen quality is subtle to my eyes. And despite thinking I would read in the hot tub, I haven't yet. The biggest benefit is the additional screen size, which is very nice, but not a must-have.

And consider Aura HD also, it cheaper then h2o. Same screen size.
