"Send to device" leaving droppings in the library?
My library is set up for primarily epubs.
I have some mixed mobi/epub where the conversion ends in epub, and I can go back to the mobi if needed to fix something. When I hooked up a Kindle and used "Send to Device" I get 'bonus' mobi files in the library. This is counter to my expectation ("send to device" should be read-only on my local library), and frustrating in that it is unclear what the original format should be. Is there a tweak to disable this behavior? |

When you send to device, if there is no suitable format for the device, a conversion is done. The result is added to the library and sent to the device. So, if you have a epub only book and send that to the Kindle, the mobi will be produced.
I don't think there are any options that affect this. There should be a prompt warning that it will happen and to confirm to go ahead. The prompt has a "don't show again" checkbox, so I assume you checked that at some point. That can be reset in the preferences, but it resets all confirmations. |

Is there any way to differentiate this "dropping" from a native MOBI file? |

I believe it is added to the library at the same time so that it will be the same book as any future conversion (preventing confusion if you convert multiple times and the settings changed, "why does each of my devices have a different book on it"
![]() There is no way to differentiate it, as they are the same MOBI. However, if you select a number of books and send them, you can then remove the MOBI format from them. There is also a Save To Format plugin. |
