set selected books to same title

How do I enter the same title for a group of books?
I got some series that all have the same name.

You could use Search and Replace (in the Metadata edit) to add a Prefix to the title.

If they all have the same name, shouldn't they be IN the same book? EPUB MERGE

I just want to name the title all the same, how can I use search and replace?
As my search worked, replace did not do anything.

These are comic files, so merging them will lead to gigabyte sized files I don't want to transfer to my tablet.

I should think part of the name would be the volume number then...

What search did you use? You will need to use the S&R tab of the Bulk Edit Metadata dialog, regex mode.

Search mode: Regular Expression
Search field: title
Search for: (.*)
Replace with: <prefix goes here> \1
Destination field: title

eschwartz - how would that put the volume numberS in the titles - would it not simply prepend whatever is in "<prefix goes here>" to all the titles, so they'd still all be the same...

OP needs to have an identifier (volume number, date whatever) in a custom column (say comicid), then use {template} in Search field and something like "{title} - {#comicid}," in Template and then your Search for and Replace with

I assume the volume number must be in the titles.

To be honest, I don't really know what these books' metadata is like, but I am answering how one would do what theducks suggested in post #2 .
It does serve as a working example of how one would use S&R, and hopefully if it doesn't in and of itself fix the OP's problem, it will serve as a useful indicator of what is needed.

Could be right

@mohataj - if you have many "books" with the same title, and assuming the each edition has the same author, then you will have lots of duplicate books. Calibre can handle that - but when you add a new edition of a comic you could be asked if you really want a duplicate - for me at least, that got confusing.

FWIW : So I keep comics in their own library, I put the comic Name in the Author column, and the identifier (edition number, date whatever) in the Title. I don't get any 'false' duplicates that way. Having the Author and Title columns repurposed hasn't been a problem for 2+ years. I keep academic journals in the same physical library, with Virtual Libraries for Comics and Journals.
