Going Crazy Turning The Page

Is anyone else going crazy because when you try to turn the page, the font menu comes up on the latest PW? Why in the wide world of sports would they put that on the reading screen????"? Why not in the menu? Do YOU change your font on a regular basis? Or when you first get your Kindle?

I think it's happened to me about twice in all the years I've owned a Kindle, and it happens when the Kindle interprets what you're doing on the screen as a two-fingered "pinch" or "spread". Sounds as if perhaps you're not tapping the screen cleanly, and that two separate parts of your finger are touching it.

Why would they put it on the reading screen? Because it's useful, and activating it accidentally really shouldn't be a regular occurence.

Try swiping instead of tapping.

I am swiping and not tapping, and it happens four or five times an hour, and I read two books a day. It is driving me crazy. How is it useful to be there? If it was on the menu screen, no problem. How many times a month do you change your font? It is like the bunny, it just won't stop happening.

Given the fact the other people don't have the problem, it's either an issue with your individual Kindle, or with the way you're tapping/swiping the screen.

Do you know anybody else with a Kindle that you could use for an hour to see if the problem occurs with theirs, too, so you could rule out it being a problem with your device?

You are holding the kindle wrong.It should be held like this.

See thumb must not touch the screen.It should only touch the bezel.

The thumb of one of your hand is touching the screen and when you swipe with the other hand the kindle is interpreting it as as pinch out and increasing font size.

This does sound the most likely explanation, I agree.

The original post says that the font menu is coming up, not that the font is increasing/decreasing.

The font menu DOES come up if you do a pinch/stretch. Try it for yourself and see.

On my PW2--running firmware 5.4.3--only the increasing and decreasing sizes of the fonts come up when doing a pinch/zoom motion--not the entire font menu. Maybe this was changed in newer versions of the firmware.

To the OP--have you always had the problem with accidently accessing the font menu, or is this something recent? If the latter, you might try doing a reset to see if that helps.

Same thing with the latest firmware - but it is a menu.

I see what you mean. I don't consider that box a "menu," as it disappears without you having to make a choice.

That's how I see it as well. I would consider the "font" menu to be the full fledged menu you get when you choose the "Aa" option. But--I'm betting the OP did mean the box that contains the various sizes of fonts.
