Review Requests? (cross-posted)

Does anyone have a comparison review you would like me to write?

I have the Cybook Ocean and the Pocketbook InkPad, and I'd like to write more. What would you like to read?

I made the mistake of upgrading to the 5.x firmware. I can't install pbimageviewer.

rkomar has upgraded pbimageviewer. You CAN install it with version 5 firmware. I am currently using it with version 5.
Manga looks pretty good on Inkpad.

I can take some photos and tell you how readable it is, but I won't do a video. If it's ok, send me a link in a pm.

Edit: I have already posted some screenshots here if you are interested.

Thanks, yes i remember that i saw your pictures. Thanks!
Look very nice!
But, it's for the reactivity, for know how much time take the Inkpad when you turn the page (if it's quick, or you need to wait about 2/3 secondes?)
I'm afraid that the Inkpad is slow for read manga (i have .cbz are about 100Mo)

rkomar's application precaches next page while you are reading. As a result turning a comic book page can be faster than turning an epub book page. Usually it takes less than a second.

@Nate the great
Pocketbook has published firmware version 4.4. Maybe you could review reading epub & mobi books with coolreader, cbz & cbr comic book reading with rkomar's pbimageviewer application (which was recently updated) and some other third party reading applications?

It is great that Pocketbook released the 4.4 firmware (the 5.X firmware was the main reason that prevented me to buy the Inkpad).

Normally, the downgrade process is the same as the manual update process which is explained in the User Manual (page 88) :

Quote:
1. Open site www.pocketbook-int.com. Select your country.
2. Click the Support button on top menu. Select hardware model of your Device.
3. Download the Firmware to your PC.
4. Unpack the content of the archive, file SWUPDATE.BIN, and copy it to the root folder of internal Device storage.
5. Switch off the Device by pressing button On/Off.
6. Press and hold both Backward and Forward buttons.
7. Switch on the Device by pressing On/Off.
Hold both Backward and Forward buttons until the message Firmware update... is displayed on the screen

I guess it might not be the best place to post this, but while testing cool reader with Inkpad, I found out that Pocketbook provides two applications for reading epubs by default - AdobeViewer (slow, huge margins) and fbreader (much faster, sane margin settings).
BTW, cool reader does work with Inkpad, is super fast (initial application launch time is higher though), there are loads of settings but:
  • top panel is tiny but still readable
  • buttons in the top panel are way too tiny to operate with finger (I guess they were designed to be used with stylus)
  • the menu, which comes up when you press the middle of the page, initially comes in russian but english labels can be seen by holding your finger on menu items. Also, for some reason russian menu item text and images don't match with english text which is actually correct. Does anyone know how to correct initial menu item text and images?
