Kindle Touch (Australia S/N Prefix 90C6) manual jailbreak?
Hi there.

I'm fairly new to Kindle so please bare with me.

I have a Kindle Touch S/N Prefix 90C6 marketed in Australia which is running Kindle Version 5.6.0.

I believe there is currently no jailbreak available for this, however I do have root access on the device via the serial debug interface.

Is there a way for me to "manually" install the rest of the jail break so I can run a launcher?

Oh come on! 184 views and not a single reply?

I know I'm new here but I'm really pulling my hair out! Surely someone knows how to do this... I've been at it for a week now!

I would even be happy just to get sshd to start at boot but they have changed from system 5 init to this new "upstart" thing and I don't understand it. But I'm sure you guys do...

I've installed a serial port, but it's ugly and I want to get rid of it. I can supply a rootfs dump if anyone needs it...

Firstly, you need this forum's proper nickname.
A 90C6 is known as a KT2 (not the several years older "Kindle Touch").

Now download the most recent Jailbreak, unpack the archive, read the scripting, run the appropriate scripts from the serial port command line.

"most recent" - the one NiLuJe is working on for the **NEW** i.MX6 devices (KT2, 2014-PW2, KV) -
it should not be hard to find, its the "hot topic" right now.

Mobileread support of the i.MX6 devices is still a work-in-progress.
You'll just have to follow along, day-by-day, extracting the information you find helpful.
The closest prefix we currently have is: PW2 (the 2013-PW2)

Still no prefixes set-up for the new devices.
We (the MR Kindle Dev forum) seem to have been abandoned by the site operators.

I'll manually start some wiki pages and hack them into the index system later today.

Plus, don't expect an answer in so short a time span, especially when that happens to be the middle of the night in half the world .

As knc1 said, download the latest jailbreak, do everything as if you were running on a supported FW/device, up to the Update Your Kindle part, where instead you'll be running jb.sh manually in your shell (from main). If you want to do everything from diags, you'll have to do things by hands.

Soz.. It just gets really frustrating when you have to pay the Australia tax (The oldest devices with the most secure firmware for the highest price)
