Artists, Obsessives and Chicago Originals: Selected Articles by Christopher Borrelli, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune newspaper, is a collection of his articles and commentary on various aspects of humanity and popular culture, ranging from celebrity Q&As to profiles on everyday persons with unusual interests to stuff on life in Chicago in general, free courtesy of publisher Agate's Digital imprint.
Technically, this has previously been offered free in 2013, but for whatever reason, it never got mentioned on MR, and I like what I've skimmed of this enough that I'm going to treat it as a "new" feature freebie for today, since I think it deserves the spotlight. Currently free, probably just until the weekend @ Amazon (not available to Canadians). May or may not show up later at B&N and/or Kobo, as Agate freebies often do (but they seem to have been skipping lately). And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because I happen to like quirky slice-of-life stuff with something of an attempt at grasping at the depths lurking under the shallows of human experience and eccentricity and whatnot. Also, we don't get nearly enough quality non-self-help non-fiction freebies, IMHO, and this adds one more title to our slowly-growing bookshelf of such. ![]() Enjoy! Description Reporter Christopher Borrelli has a fascination with the quirky and the obsessive, and a talent for finding unique angles and stories when it comes to artists, entertainers, and everyday people. This book collects his in-depth profiles of celebrities, as well as profiles and commentary on everyday people he affectionately calls "obsessives." The kind of folk who fascinate Borrelli can be workers at a local prop shop, carhops at the fast-food chain Sonic, or a video collective that has over 4,000 VHS copies of Jerry Maguire. But regardless of the quirks of a featured subject, Borrelli gives an illustrative and illuminating look into their true character—from celebrities we all "know" to cult heroes and veritable unknowns. Filled with entertaining celebrity Q&A's, unique views on cultural phenomenons, and insightful takes on all things Chicago, Borrelli is one of the Chicago Tribune's most enjoyable and humorous writers. His feature pieces are sure to offer inspiring perspectives on art, entertainment, film, found life, celebrities, and Chicago originals. This broad collection of Borrelli's best articles and commentary will appeal to his fans, Chicagoans, and consumers of pop culture across the country.
