Do you use your Kindle to purchase books and/or look things up often when you are out of wi-fi range? If so, 3G is worthwhile. If not, it's an unnecessary expense.
Ads/no ads is just a personal preference. I dislike advertising, I don't want to see it. I bought mine with ads, and then asked Amazon to remove them, which they did kindly for no charge (I do buy a lot of things from Amazon, well above and beyond my Kindle purchases.) When I did have ads on my Voyage, the vast majority were for ebooks. There was also an ad for insurance on the Kindle from a third-party company. When Amazon first brought out the ad-supported Kindle a few years ago, they did have ads for many different products other than ebooks. I would think there might be some interesting ones coming for the holidays. What does living next to a football ground have to do with anything? |

I personally like having the 3g so I don't have to sign in to a wifi place every time I am away from home if someone mentions a book I want. Instead of writing it down, I can just download a sample. It is a luxury however. I got the Voyage with the ads because I thought I could always remove them later. So far they are for ebooks and electronics warranties.

Not sure why you're asking about ads. You live in the UK and ad-supported Kindles are only sold to people in the US. Are you planning to visit the US to buy your Voyage?
Why do you think we're going to get power cuts this winter, by the way? |

Cell towers would be of no importance to a WiFi-only Kindle (which was the question asked); they would only affect a 3G Kindle.

Sian, you seem to be overthinking things to much. If you think you'll use the 3G to buy books then buy a 3G, if not buy a wifi.
Don't worry about things that might happen in the future that you can't control. |

I had a DX which was 3G only. After that experience, I've stayed with WiFi-only. My Kindle and I visit the same coffee shops and cafes so after a few weeks my Kindle knows most of my haunts.
If the power goes off, which it does sometimes, I'm stuck to reading the thirty or forty books I've downloaded to my Kindle. Oh, woe is me. |

I have a mobile hotspot plan with my smartphone and am able to use that for "wifi" when I am out and about if needed. I seldom do though. I am almost always on the home or work wifi when I need it.
