Question Column propagation to other rows?

Hi,

I have customn column read:yes/no, where I manually track if I read some book.

I'd like to create virtual library which would consist only of authors with books I haven't read yet, but I read at least one of their books.

I thought I could do that by some kind of custom column which would be set to true if there is any book by the same author marked as read:yes.

Is this possible?

Thanks,
J.

No, the calibre search function is limited to the book record it tries to match.

Similar concepts have been achieved, however, using custom python scripts that search the database, iterate over the authors of all books matching a search, iterating over all books matching the authors, and editing a custom column for all those books.

So you basically mean a script, run periodically (or on demand) which would set yes/no column readThisCauseYourReadThat and then creating the Virtual Library?

If so, could you point me to some examples? I don't speak python but I think I can hack something existing...

I am not sure where they are, I know @chaley has posted some.

You would run them via calibre-debug /path/to/scrupt.py
