How to review bulk metadata
Wotcher!
I'm tackling my large and unruly library by playing with the facility to bulk download metadata/covers, and then reviewing them one by one. The metadata search takes bloomin ages, so I'm doing it by Author initial, just an arbitrary way to divide up the library, really. Still takes ages. So here's the rub: half way through reviewing the As, I accidentally hit Escape, and it closed the review window (without warning!). How can I start that review again, without setting the metadata download going again? I don't think it's updated the metadata for the ones I'd accepted, even, so it currently looks like my only option is to start literally from scratch. Tell me it isn't so! ![]() Much obliged! Restart the download.

Boo, I was afraid you'd say that, but not surprised. Yes I'm pretty sure it hasn't written the changes, at least, I can't see them when I view the metadata in my library list, and in the meantime, I found this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...etadata+review
Suggests that it will take a while for it actually write my changes when it gets to it. I'm glad I started this by Author and didn't just leap into the whole library! Last edited by Elwynd02; 11-16-2014 at 04:00 AM. Reason: Left off the point! |

I think that is referring to the backup of the OPF, not updating the database with the main metadata records.
![]() I never did a field test of when the metadata gets written. ![]() |

AFAIK it doesn't write changes until after you review last book - I say that because after reviewing the last book it displays one of the horizontal progress bars that flicks through the list of books
It slow because a) the servers and network are slow b) more metadata source PIs you have configured the slower it gets c) I believe that metadata downloading is throttled - because the folks who provide the metadata (for free) have complained about bandwidth usage, I think someone said they threatened to block access to their databases to all calibre users. Thanks, guys. |
