Metadata changes lost when books moved to tablet?
Hi all,
I like to read my books with Moonreader+ on my Google Nexus 10. The problem is many of my books have incorrect metadata (titles and authors are often swapped and covers are sometimes missing). So I loaded my library into Calibre and fixed all the metadata problems, then imported the books into Moonreader+ (I wiped out the old library in Moonreader+ first), but the changes I made have been lost. The books still have titles and authors swapped and missing covers. Do I need to do some kind of export or conversion for the metadata changes to carry over to Moonreader+ on my tablet? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dorian |

How did you import the books into Moon+? Did you just copy them from the Calibre library folder on your drive? Metadata is only written to a Calibre book when the book is exported from Calibre, using either "Send to Device" or "Save to Disk".

Copying them to a folder is fine, but you need to get them into that folder by using Calibre's "Save to Disk" facility. Treat Calibre's library folder as a "black box": don't copy stuff out of it directly.

Ok, I can't figure out how to send the books to my device. I selected them all and right-clicked, and I see 'Send to device,' but I'm not seeing my Nexus 10 there. I'm thinking this is because the one time it asked me if I wanted Calibre to manage my device, I said 'no.' Now I can't find where to add my tablet as a device. Little more help, please?

Still didn't work. How do I get it to detect my device? I looked around at the FAQ's, and it says to look in 'Preferences' to make sure my device isn't being ignored, and there is no 'Ignored Devices' option. If I can just get it to mange my device, maybe I can get it to work.
------------ Ok, I found the 'Ignored Devices' and unchecked my tablet.... Last edited by dastaten; 11-13-2014 at 03:57 AM. |

Good. But "Save to Disk" really should work, too. Not sure why it didn't

I personally find that creating a directory for saving books to disk and using that directory as the source for copying to my sd card is easiest.
It took a few tries until I found the best naming convention as I prefer to read my books by author then series and find the "bookshelf" in moonreader needs the books copied to my device versus the sd card. I find loading the book from the sd card easier and uses less memory on my device. (not to mention my having trouble trying to get the books to display in series order on the bookshelf when I have so many authors and series). |

Calibre Companion can display and sort books by most calibre fields such as series, including custom columns. You can easily get book lists in series order. No renaming or other workarounds are required, regardless of whether the books are on a SD card or in main memory. CC also integrates very well with Moon+; find a book, long-press on it, and it can be opened in the reader app. </shameless plug> |
