That error usually means either the device can't be seen properly, or is corrupt. As you can see the device in explorer and see the books, can you see the file ".kobo\KoboReader.sqlite"? That is the database. If it is missing, that is the problem. Try disconnecting and powering the device off. I'm not sure about the WiFi, but the newer devices will create a new database during the startup.
If the database us there, can you write to the device? If for some reason Windows has mounted it read-only. calibre will not be able to do anything with it. Lastly, if the database is corrupted, that needs to be fixed. If you have a database backup, you can restore that. Otherwise, it needs to be recreated. Deleting the corrupt one and restarting as suggested above might fix it. Otherwise I think you have to do a factory reset to fix this. |

Sorry, I misread the last line of your original post. Reading it properly changes my response completely.
Unfortunately, this is something a few Kobo WiFi owners have reported. It seems to be related to a firmware upgrade. The solutions are: - Talk to Kobo. They know about the problem and some people have had their WiFi replaced with a refurbished Kobo Touch. - Write a new image to the internal SD card. You need to open the device, remove the internal micro SD card, and mount it in a computer and write an image to it. Instructions and the image are available. - Buy a new device. If you have been looking for an excuse to upgrade, you now have one ![]() |

By asking nicely. I have sent you a PM with a link. And have a look https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=209122 for some instructions. It is for upgrading the SD card in a Glo, but the steps and tools are all the same.

How big is the card? The image is for a 2GB card. There have been other people the size difference. I can't think what they did to solve it. There are two threads in the Kobo forum where people have requested this image and there is some discussion on this.
If your device only has a 1GB card, then putting a 2GB card in it will work OK. |

Kobo Wifi owner here. There is another solution to this problem:
What is the system date/time on the Kobo Wifi? If it is set to the past, it won't see any books added in the present. |

I have seen some problems with the newer devices if the date is set back a bit. But, the books are on the device, just not in the recent part of the lists. Based on the problem description, and far to many similar reports, I doubt that is the case here. If it was, the books would appear on the disk when looked at using explorer.

I can assure you from years of personal experience that the books on a Kobo Wifi added in, as far as the Kobo is concerned, "the future" will not show up *at all* on any part of the Kobo. Not recent. Not library. Not anywhere. Kobo Wifi has a tendency to lose date/time settings and go back to the distant past every time the battery is discharged and it sits discharged for a while. (I believe "a while" to be about a week.) I cannot tell you how many times this quirk got me. Especially on vacations where I was away from my usual charging habits. "Where'd my books go? I could have sworn... " "Oh wait, Kobo thinks it is 1981. Fixed it. There my books are!" Last edited by theinfamousj; 11-08-2014 at 09:15 AM. |

I wonder how many of those other situations could have benefitted from a simple settings maneuver. I am guessing that someone stumbled upon the refresh of the OS the same way I stumbled onto the discovery that when the battery dies (0%) it tends to reset the system time to - on my Kobo's case - 1981 and simply spread it as gospel. Both accomplish the same goal: resetting the system time. One is easier for the non-engineer. Kobo Wifi vanishing books is common and predictable. Some would call it a bug. I call it a quirk. I have had to be very diligent about keeping it charged to keep Kobo from time warping back to 1981. ![]() |

@theinfamousej: While I agree that writing a new image to the internal SD card is a drastic way to fix the clock, I really don't think that is the problem here. I think that you read the last line of the the first post the same as I did. If you read the OPs response to my post, I was corrected as apparently the OP could not see anything using explorer.
The time causing a problem like this is interesting. The newer firmware has no problem with this. The books are there, they just don't appear on the home screen and date sorting of the library lists put them in the appropriate place according to the devices clock. But, I'll remember this for the next time I see a report like this. If fixing the time fixes this, that will make people a lot happier. |

I read it all and it seems that you are asking about Explorer and he is answering about Calibre/Kobo. But there is an easy way to solve this:
OP: Can you see the contents of your Kobo through your computer's file Explorer as if it were a flash drive? (Forget about Calibre for the moment.) If the answer is "yes", then try fixing your system time. If the answer is "no", then I concur that you have something more sinister going on. |

Time and date was right...it is a 1 gig card. I guess I could update it and go buy a 2gig one, just asking if anyone had a smaller image. Thanks for all the help guys.
