Only show matches when searching book in my library
In old Calibre versions, when I searched for a book in my library, it only showed the matches to my search. Now, it highlights them in green. I have to scroll the library to see if any other book matches. This is awful. I have a pretty big library, with thousands of books. Scrolling through all the list is not an option. Is there a way to go back to the old behavior?

Search is showing all books with some highlighted! How do I fix this? (← click)
That's a sticky thread at the top of the Library Management sub forum BR |

It was taken off the search bar because of the continuous stream of posts and bug reports. Apparently people would click the button, perhaps without realizing it, and then report a problem one way or another. Strange as it may seem, the number of problem reports we see now is lower than before the button was removed.

@chaley - the Red Bar button is only shown when there is an active VL, so why not do the same for the Blues Bar button - only show it when there's an active Search.
If its only available when its appropriate, users will soon figure out its purpose; I'd imagine the problem reports would reduce to near zero. BR |

The remaining problem reports are all because of the Find Duplicates plugin, which toggles this setting as part of its operation, which it really should not be doing.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for not looking harder for an answer. I really did search for it, but didn not find it.

@Kovid - Preferences->Keyboard->Miscellaneous->Highlight Search Results doesn't appear to have a default value
Would it be worth giving it a default value - so when users create threads like this one, they can be advised to press whatever you choose as the default - eg ctrl/H It works regardless of whether or not the button is displayed in search bar. BR |

This is not an operation that is common enough to deserve its own default shortcut. Since the shortcut namespace is shared by everything, I dont like to add defaults to it for operations that are not common.

In addition, we'd get threads (admittedly probably only a small amount) from people who hit ctrl+h by mistake...
(I get calls about twice a week from people who manage somehow to hit ctrl+alt+arrow by mistake and end up with a flipped screen; I'm not optimistic about ctrl+h in Calibre) N. |

My post had "e.g. ctrl/H". e.g. abbreviation of Latin phrase 'exempli gratia', which translates to 'for the sake of example'. BR |
