Kindle Keyboard locks up. Help!

My Kindle keyboard has been working marvelously and is fully charged. Now the screen freezes. I've done a restart 3 or 4 times (holding the switch for 20 seconds to 45 seconds to have it reboot). I will get my library and then it freezes there. I remember reading something somewhere on this forum about a kindle that is 'bricked', but can't seem to find out if it applies or how to unbrick the Kindle. I did some searching on the web, but many of the links are old and go nowhere. Help please!

Can you get to it via USB, i.e. attaching it to your pc and see the folders like you were going to add books? There may be a way to fix it if you can do that.

I've had that happen before. I resolved it by resetting the device to factory settings. I had to download the content again, but it stopped locking up.

That's why I asked about USB access. It sounds like the OP can't get to menu items before it locks up. There are ways to FR when you can't get in to the UI.

Sounds like you downloaded a bad book! Delete the ebooks going backwards from last loaded til you get to the problem book. Then re-load.

I haven't quite figured out the debricking thing yet, but I can confirm that the problem appears to be completely WIFI. Once I was able to get the wifi OFF, everything works perfectly. Turn it on, it locks up and stays that way. So, at least I can use it again.

I will try deleting some books that were emailed to my kindle and see if that works. If that doesn't, the debricking thing would be next unless there are other suggestions. Need to clear off a USB drive to do that though.

I'd do a factory reset to clear off the data.

I tried the factory reset and everything seemed to be working nice again. Put it away for the night, then tried to restart a few minutes ago and ...nothing. It clearly has power, but would not give me a library screen. I do think the wifi isn't working and that's what's messing it up. I did a reset, turned off the wifi. It is working fine now. I turned it off and on, still working fine.

So is this 'bricked'? Or just wifi not working? I don't mind leaving it off the wifi. I can sideload everything and I have multiple kindles so just need to change where automated delivery goes.

Make sure your holding the on button long enough... mine took 60 sec to re-boot once. IF you tried over & over again set it down walk away do something else then after a while try it again...

found k3 did that

de registerd it, factory reset , copied books ( tried 3 books) manual into document folder fom computer via usb,

while still linked to usb ejected kindle, checked books worked after restart and reset.

only the did i go to menu and look for update and resync

seem to work so slowly added a few more books this time via my archive
( still linked to computer as was unsure at this point)
everything seemed fine so removed usb cable

think mine got lost in an update loop.
still doesnt explain the keyboard playing up but at least i can read a book

I ended up doing the factory reset. Cleared everything, reregistered, downloaded the most recent software. Tried loading on some books via wifi and it soon locked up. These are regular amazon ebooks. So, did another factory reset, reregistered, downloaded the most recent software. Then I shut off the wifi and sideloaded books. Clearly the wifi is not playing nice, but I can still use the unit. As mentioned, I have several other kindles, including another kindle keyboard that I inherited, so I'm not without options. Thanks all!
