Kindle Voyage metadata transfer very slow

Just got a Kindle Voyage and I'm loading it with books from my Calibre library. I've noticed, looking at the jobs screen, that it seems to be taking a long time for the "Sending metadata to device" step: about 25s after uploading a single book; about 35s if it uploads 10 books. I'm sure it's been a lot faster than this on other devices - is this slowness due to something in the Voyage itself?

32-bit Calibre 2.8 running on 64-bit Windows 7.

Here's a screenshot which illustrates what I'm seeing. As you see, it typically takes around 2s to send a book from Calibre to the Voyage, following by around 30s to send the metadata. Is this what would be expected?

Sending metadata involves sending the metadata of all books on the device (the metadata is stored ina single json file), so regardless of how many books you send the time for sending metadata will be roughly constant. As for the increase in time, that will likely be because of the increased cover thumbnail size the Voyage needs.

Thank you for the explanation. That makes sense.

Strange, because I've noticed that the time to send books to the device has improved greatly from my PW2 to the Voyage. I was pretty shocked at how fast they now transfer. I haven't actually looked at the jobs screen, but it's probably usually done before I could get there. But, I am usually only adding about 10-15 books at a time. I messed up a few months ago and accidentally deleted my Calibre library on my PC, so when I got the Voyage, I sort of had to fill up my library again, and I've been doing that fairly gradually.

Speed differences between models is not totally surprising.
The (write) speed of the storage media can come into play, just like on your desktop (Which is why you see so many 'Get a SSD' suggestions).

WiFi connection speed varies all over the place (even for the same device) with location or orientation with respect to the A/P.

What else happens to fire off while the WiFi is on (My Android base devices are always checking for updates [that I don't want and can't disable without having to root the device])

The other common cause of speed differences is USB 1 vs USB 2 vs USB 3
