I added the 1mobile.com market app to my Fire HDX because I wanted to get the Mantano ereader. That's the only non-Amazon Store app that I've put on the device. Yet I'm getting notifications from 1mobile about updates available for some of the apps that I've gotten from Amazon - while Amazon itself isn't notifying me about such updates.
My question is, is it safe to do updates to apps via a secondary source like 1mobile, or do I need to wait for an Amazon Kindle Fire HDX-approved update via Amazon itself? Thanks in advance. ![]() |

It depends on what apps it's recommending you update. If you update the core Amazon apps on the Fire (Audible, Kindle app, Music, Gallery, etc.), you'll run into a problem since those Fire apps are different than the generic android apps and are merged into the Fire's launcher. If they're third-party apps, you should be fine. I use 1mobile market as well, but I have app notifications and automatic updates turned off so I don't run into problems on my Fires by accidentally updating something I shouldn't. Just update the ones you need to individually.
The reason you're getting notifications about them is because some of the apps in Amazon's app store aren't updated as much as apps in 1mobile, so they're older versions. Also of note is that sometimes you'll run into an issue with apps on 1mobile that might not work properly on the Fire since it runs a forked version of android. I haven't found this happening very often, and usually it's with a random game or two. |

Thanks for the info.
As of this point in time I've only added two apps from 1mobile - the Mantano app and the Nook app. I'm not really planning on loading it up with much, because I've got a lot of apps on my Nooks via Google Play and I don't want to have to keep re-buying them in order to install them on the Fire, and since I rooted my Nook HD+, I've been picking up the various daily free apps/sale apps from Amazon's appstore, so I have them available to me on the Fire. I'll make sure those 1mobile notifications are turned off. |

You won't be able to update the Amazon apps from the 1market store. I had that trouble too so I gave up with the 1market store and uninstalled it. I bought a cheap Android device and I sideloaded the apps I wanted from Google play using my account on Google play and that device combined with ES File explorer, I back up the app on the android device then send the apk to the Fire using the functionality in the ES File Explorer app.
It took me a while to work out what was going on with my Fire at first as I kept trying to install the updates and they kept failing because the signature for the app update from 1market didn't match the signature of the app from the Amazon App Store. Now I turn on the android device once a week and if I get any updates I copy them over to the Fire like the first time, then install them. Last edited by Josieb1; 03-02-2015 at 10:58 AM. |
