Advancing the page in Plucker

Hi

I'm new and not good at technical things. I am trying to read a book on Plucker, and when I click down to advance the page, the last line...or part of it...repeats at the top of the next 'page', so I have to find my place, and can't enjoy the book properly. I looked at the options and tried different sentence spacing, paragraph spacing, font size...and I can't figure out how to make it so that what I've already read doesn't repeat on the next page. I would appreciate any advice you could give very much. Thank you!

In Plucker, there is no way to do what you want. Plucker is not page-oriented. That is, it works something like a web browser, where the document is one long "page" and you just scroll up and down through it.

Some reader software, such as eReader, is page oriented and you will get a nice clean break between pages.

It's sort of like Coke and Pepsi. Everybody has their preference, and as it happens, I agree with you. I prefer page-oriented. And Pepsi.

Thank you so much for letting me know! Do you happen to know if e-reader or one like it will read Project Gutenberg books?

You're welcome!

Gutenberg files are plain ASCII or HTML and cannot be read directly by eReader. You have to convert them. The good news is that there is a free utility, Dropbook, to do that. The bad news is that if you just run Dropbook on an ASCII file, the formatting on the screen in eReader will be hideous (line breaks in the middle of a line). I'm quite an eReader fan, so I've learned to use its formatting language, PML, and I just go ahead and do the formatting and conversion whenever I want a Gutenberg text. You may not want to go to that extreme.

The only readers I use are eReader (for books that I care about enough to format) and Plucker (for web pages, articles, etc.) If I just wanted to grab something from Gutenberg and read it without fiddling with it, I'd use Plucker and live with the page issue.

There may be other choices that will do what you want, but I don't know of them. That doesn't mean they're not out there. I've never done a detailed investigation.

By the way, you'll find plenty of eReader books for free at www.memoware.com.
