Kepub that doesn't change the formatting?

Is it possible for Kobo to create kpeub that does not change the ePub's original formatting? kepub does change the formatting of the ePub. I've compared kepub to the original ePub and it's not the same. It's noticeably different and in most cases, the original is better in some way. And when you use the Modify ePub plugin to remove the kepub additions, the eBook's formatting is yet again different.

I've tested this with both Calibre's viewer and ADE 2.

Remember that we're talking here about two DIFFERENT rendering engines, with more than likely, different sets of default built-in defaults for styling.

Font size, line height, section breaks, graphics, spacing, margins, and probably other things I am leaving out.

I'll get some screen grabs from ADE and attach them so you can see for yourself.

In both cases, the eBooks have different formatting. The conversion to kepub does change the original formatting and it shows with both ADE and Calibre.

Can you have a look and see if a kepub in access is formatted the same as the same eBook in ePub with ADE on the same Kobo Reader?

Default font is up to the program used to view the kepub.

Yes, that's true and can cause/explain (some of) the differences between kepub and epub that might occur. Different default settings or different supported/unsupported epub2/3 features (http://epubtest.org/).

To rule out engine causes
1. rename a .epub to .kepub.epub without making any changes to the book (epub) itself. If it still looks the same then it is pretty safe to conclude it is not an underlying rendering engine issue.
Minor differences may indeed explain differences in default settings or supported/unsupported epub2/3 features (http://epubtest.org/).

We should compare
  1. the original epub
  2. the renamed epub to kepub.epub (without any modifications)
  3. the converted epub to kepub using a plugin
  4. (or) manually create a kepub by adding the Kobo Style hacks

If you look in the "kepub stuff" thread, you'll see that the problems have been solved. It was because of a set of styles left in the headers of XML in the kepub that caused the formatting differences once the kepub code was removed. Modify ePub has been fixed to remove this and it's in the Modify ePub thread. I expect a new official version soon.
