Calibre in Linux

Why we cannot use a shared resource in Linux as Calibre Library? In windows you are able to use it.

A Linux filesystem is case-sensitive. NTFS is not. That can wreck havoc on Calibre's library.

You can do it, it's just that debugging this when it breaks can be hell (edit: and has nothing to do with Calibre), so it's not supported from the get-go.

In my experience it is possible to place the calibre library on a shared folder in Linux. I had my calibre library on a Synology NAS for several years. But it was a NAS that ran Linux and the networked filesystem was NFS, that is case sensitive, not SMB or CIFS. And there were no Windows computers in the network at all.

But still: This is not recommended, if you still do use calibre on networked filesystem, expect problems and don't blame anyone else for your mistakes.

Now I have bigger local drives and also a big SSD, so now I have my calibre library on the SSD, automated backups to local HD and NAS, and I even use a local HD as a NFS cache for the NAS. I upgraded the NAS, so I suddenly had a bunch of spare large harddrives. After testing, three of four still seemed reliable.
