CC alpha release 3.4.4c

CC alpha release 3.4.4c has been published and will be available to people in the alpha test program.

Changes since 3.4.4b (see this thread for details about 3.4.4b):
  • Change "Is read" to "Read" in sort menus to be consistent with grouping
  • The formats group now ignores the first-letter option
  • Move autosort preferences to own group
  • Add an option to remove <<>> lines
  • Numbers use 100-wide ranges as first letters in the grouping drawer
  • Use the word "items" everywhere in the grouping drawer instead of the category name.
  • [BUG FIX]Fix not being able to long-press on the first line of a group
  • [BUG FIX]Fix inconsistent use of "Name" vs "Name (key)"
  • [BUG FIX]Prevent duplicated Date and Pubdate entries in various selection dialog boxes
  • [BUG FIX]Make all categories support having the <<>> line
  • [BUG FIX]Fix Groups and the category line not using the specified font size
  • [BUG FIX]Ensure that new books will get covers sent on next connect if the current connection is interrupted

Thank you all for your help.

Would you consider extending this to any category with a very small number of entries? I don't think the exact number needs to be an option, just some small number of your choosing.

I think there might be a problem with this. I turned off the lines, but if I select series (for example) the books that are not part of a series are still showing up in the book list when the grouping drawer is closed.

Also, in the grouping drawer at the top, the sort is now showing both the column label and the field name. Is that intentional?

This is the way I intended it to work. Clicking on any group line shows all the books (or should). It is not a category:true search. All that is happening is that the <<>> line is hidden. Without doing some significant reconstruction on how the database is built, that is how it must work.

No. I will look at that.

No. That decision is made without access to the number of items. In fact it is made before the db is queried.

People have asked to have the "first letter" choice be on a group-by-group basis. Up to now that wasn't possible, but it is now. I will look at that.

I would actually prefer it work that way. I only requested the other way because I thought it was easier for you. Group by group is much better.

Well don't do it. It's not important enough to put a lot of work into. Getting rid of the <<>> in the list is still nice to have.

  1. The new range option on #pages is looking good. I like it!
  2. The Kindle for Samsung option still reads 'Samsumg Kindle' (runs for cover).
  3. On the 'Groups from custom columns' settings page, still a typo.
Published pubdate) should read Published (pubdate)
  4. Groups from custom columns & Autosort when tapping a group. This one's a bit more complicated.

I started off the 3.4.4c testing by doing a Reset List in 'Groups from custom columns' to trigger a database rebuild.

I then checked Published plus 3 custom columns to add as new Groups.

The Grouping drawer correctly shows these 4 additions, however the autosorts are remembered from 3.4.4b and they are not the values I now want.

So, I go to Autosort settings to correct them. The only items I'm offered on the list are Title, Authors, Series, Tags, Published (plus Publishers, Rating, Read which are greyed out because I have unchecked these three in Groups to show). There is no sign of the 3 custom columns I just created Groups for, so I can't change the autosort.

    Any ideas?

Good. Thoughts on using value-sensitive ranges, such as 10000-10999 for values >= 10,000?

Haven't dealt with that one yet.

I thought I fixed that. I must have reverted the changes at some point and not noticed. Or perhaps I fixed it in my dreams ...

This one is my fault, pure and simple. While trying to work out how to remove duplicates from the sort menu I accidentally removed all sortable custom columns from the autosort menu. Fixed.

I will make another release in a day or so. I would like to get to a stable point before I start releasing the code that permits changing what is shown in the book list.

I remember from one of your previous posts that ignoring the typo, launching the samsung reader doesn't work. Is this still true? Is the typo all I need to fix?

Typo only. Launching Kindle for Samsung has always worked.

If doable, I think value-sensitive ranges are a good idea for big numbers. Using the Word count example, 100 words is barely significant (half-a-page???)

P.S. We've got workmen coming in tomorrow for a couple of days so daytime testing time may be a bit limited.

Optionally sync book files
- Menu still says Calibre 2.2 or newer instead of 2.3
- the display sat at waiting for Calibre for almost a minute then sent 10 books. It then seemed to get stuck in a loop - it sent the same 10 books two more times in the group of 10 and then I hit cancel. The books again have no cover, but I expected that.

I'll send logs from both CC and Calibre.

I sent the logs and noticed something very interesting on the Calibre log searching for one of the sent books. Do you know how a date in 2015 can be set? I guess this book will be sent every time I connect with the sync flag set unless I can figure out how to change it.

That is what I noticed as well.

There are two ways a future-dated timestamp can be set. The first: having the incorrect date/time on the computer when the file is changed. The second: some program did it.

The utility at http://www.petges.lu/home/ seems to be a reasonable tool for manipulating timestamps.

I will change calibre to ignore future-dated timestamps.
