Any rumors of the T68 coming out with the Carta screen?
Since the new Kobo Aura H2O will be coming out with it, I was wondering if there were any rumors floating around?

With all due respect, I really think they should focus on fixing the current T68 and its assortment of show-stopping bugs,

T68 will be remembered as a failed attempted at running Android on a e-ink device.
Sigh typical Chinese company product. How did this product even made to the production line? Last edited by FinancialWar; 08-30-2014 at 08:06 AM. |

It seems to be working quite well for some people. Other members, it must be noted, are having some issues. I don't actually own one, so I won't pass judgement on whether or not it is a failure. |

I own the T68 and I like it a lot for reading epubs. There are some minor issues (touch recognition could be more precise), but nothing serious.

So do I. I have had no issues so far, although the touch recognition could indeed be better, but it is a really cool device. And I have owned (or still own) a Kindle touch, a PW1, a PW2, a kobo mini, an Aura, an Aura HD, a PB623 and a PRS-T1. My WiFi has been working perfectly, and I have no problem with the battery either. Maybe I have been very lucky, but then, I am not the only lucky one here.

Working fine for me, too. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's the best there is at the moment, and it certainly demonstrates that generic Android on e-ink is a viable proposition.

After two months reading dayly I consider the T68 the best option for me. I have lots of devices, including Kobo AURA HD and Paperwhite 2. The touchscreen is the only thing I'm not totally happy with, but it is not that painfull. Indeed since the last update it is more accurate...
In my case, the more I use it the more I charge it and the more the battery seems to last. Last time, two weeks after a long and intense use: at least one hour per day... Never had any issues with WIFI so... I can't complain ![]() I'm very happy with it, and even having Aura HD and PW2 at hand I always read on it. |

I'm one of the persistent ones. I had problems with my first T68, and so I returned it to Amazon. The second turned out to be slightly worse problem-wise. That, too, was returned. For me, number three has been the charm. This one actually works flawlessly!
The T68 is a fine eReader, especially if you invest the time in choosing your preferred reading app(s) and setting them up to your taste. If I looked at the T68 simply as an eReader, I'd say it was fine but that I found the Kindle Paperwhite to be slightly more satisfying overall (and I started out as a Nook Simple Touch fan). However, where the T68 really comes through for me is in being able to install Android apps that are all text or pretty much so. I can't install Instapaper or Logos Bible Software on a Kindle! I don't expect it to replace a Nexus 7, but if you like how eInk is easier on the eyes and if you like the option of installing some Android apps that rely on text, I doubt you'll find a better option out there than the T68. Onyx needs to improve their quality control somewhat, as I have bought eReaders from Nook, Kindle and Kobo, and this is the first time I have sent one back, let alone two! Still, if yours works as advertised, it's great. PS - I found that Greenify helps battery life! Last edited by downeaster59; 09-01-2014 at 03:03 PM. Reason: add one more thought |

@downeaster
How much money and time did you put into in getting a working T68? Buying a electronic shouldn't be this hard. If you buy a Sony reader or Kobo, you are confident the device will work. You can not say the same thing with Onyx. You should be able to buy a device confident that it will work and the retail store or the manufacture will honour the device or warranty. Buying T68 is like playing roulette, you might get a good one if you're lucky, but most of the time you end up with a defective product. And everytime you do get a defective product, it will cost you time and money (returning postage). And companies like Booxstor's ereader-store.de have ridiculously return policy that basically says, if you find any fault with the product after you started using it, you will not be able to get a refund. And that you not get money back for postage to and from the store. Basically it would cost $120+ AUD to trying out their defective reader for a week. Go figure. If you want to buy and try your luck with the T68, buy from Amazon. Last edited by FinancialWar; 09-01-2014 at 06:44 PM. |

Well, there was the time involved in setting up three devices and sending two back. My mistake was with the second T68. Amazon didn't have any at that time, so I ordered from Arta Tech in Poland. Amazon provides free return shipping, but not Arta Tech nor Booxstor's store, from what some have said. That return cost $140 US. So, yes, if you buy a T68, order from Amazon! You'll know quickly enough if yours has a problem. This third T68 is good so far. If you get a good one, it will serve you well. But, looking at my history, either my luck was bad the first two times, or there is a quality control issue that Onyx needs to address.

Although I think T68 is a good device in some aspects, I agree that Onyx will need to improve their quality control significantly - e.g., it is hard to imagine a kindle or nook device with such an OBVIOUS touchscreen inaccuracy will be selling to customers, I personally feel that Onyx knew the issue but cannot wait to grab the money ahead of any other competing companies. Customers will hestitate to buy their future products after having this negative impression.
