Multiple identical ebook files ?

Hi,

This weekend I've spend quite some hours cleaning up my library. Names, covers etc.

Now I'm done, I'm noticing something really weird.

After running an (external, not Calibre) double-file-killer-program on the directory containing my library, I notice that I have a LOT of double files.

For example (one directory) :
Bas Banning - Smokkel in De Pol - A. van Aarden.epub
Bas Banning - Smokkel in de Polder - A. van Aarden.epub
cover.jpg
metadata.opf

When I look up this book in my Calibre library, and go to metadata, I only have one file listed here. Unfortunately I cannot see which of the above two identical files are 'connected' to Calibre.

How can I find out which file is connected, and which file I can safely delete?
Furthermore I would also like to know how this happened, so I can prevent this in the future... All these double files are taking up a lot of extra space and backuptime.

Thnx in advance!

This is unusual. Calibre allows only 1 of a format in a title folder.
Has someone been messing beneath the skirts ?

Library Maintenance should note extra files(extra being those NOT belonging to the Library)

I have seen something like this happen on some books. It seemed to be related from around the time of the 1.0 release when some of the limits on maximum filename length were reduced by a few characters.

As was mentioned the Library Maintenance function can identify which are the superfluous files (probably the ones with slightly longer filenames).

Solved

Thnx guys. Calibre can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, never really worked with the 'Library maintenance' option. Problem solved, files got deleted automagically!

It can also happen that a book that is "disconnected" from calibre due to the book being open when you attempt to change the title or the author info.

I have to remind myself to run a check of the library on a regular basis.
