Page numbers
Some of my ebooks from amazon have page numbers in them but most do not. Is it possible to add them to books I get from Amazon? How do I accomplish this?

Calibre will generate the proper extra file but only with calculated, so pseudo, page numbers. If you want better you will need a copy of the paper book.

Page numbers are stored as a file on the kindle called "[userstore]/documents/{book}.sdr/{book}.apnx" (where {book} is the filename minus the extension of the book itself).
calibre will by default generate and send these when sending a book from your library to the device -- but as Little.Egret warned, they are calculated through guesswork. You can increase the accuracy of the guess by using a custom column to hold the page count. (See the options in the device driver.) |

Hmm, Calibre can get that done for me, sudo page numbers are fine. If I generate the page numbers in Calibre do I put both files on my kindle so that the Kindle can display the file numbers? I thought tthat the page numbers needed to be part of the book file. What commands do I execute in Calibre to do that?

Awesome feature! Is there any way to export the .apnx file to my computer? In other words, can I "send to a folder on my computer" instead of "send to Kindle device"?
P.S. I tried "Save to Disk" but that only saved the azw3 file, not the .apnx. Thanks! Last edited by pssquirrel; 02-17-2015 at 12:51 PM. |

Nope, as you saw.
EDIT: Not true, there is a plugin [GUI Plugin] APNX Generator. On the last page there is a test version compatible with calibre v2.x Last edited by eschwartz; 11-21-2014 at 03:54 PM. |

Thanks eschwartz! Gave it a try.
The good news is the new beta plug-in does indeed work with Calibre 2.10. The bad news is the Kindle browser won't download .apnx files ![]() I get a pop-up window saying filetype not allowed (or some such) and only azw, mobi, prc and txt files can be downloaded. Hmm, you can try jailbreaking and installing KUAL and the skipstone browser which has no filetype restrictions.
... Wait, except according to your profile you have the KV, which isn't hacked (yet, we hope). ![]() |
