OnyxReader and Fonts
Is it possible to add new fonts to the OnyxReader app on a Lynx model device?

Yes, but you have to root it first (see the mobileread wiki there is an explanation to it, just make sure you use the version v1 of towelroot, v3 does not work).
If I remember well you then have to add the fonts in either System/fonts or System/adobe/resources/fonts. I am now using Booxtor's FW and have added my own fonts for the OnyxReader, but since I bought my T68 at amazon it is an arta tech one, I just did not like their FW and used Booxtor's method to switch it. Before switching I had already rooted the Lynx and added my own fonts so I know it works for both versions. |

Hm, is there a straightforward set of instructions for doing this to a Lynx? I don't see it on the wiki page.

Ok. First, inform yourself if you don't know what rooting implies before following these instructions. Warranty might be lost, rooting will open your system allowing you for changes but then also for screw ups that may or may not be fixable afterwards.
Google for towelroot and make sure you download the v1 version of the apk. Then install the apk, click on the "make it rain", wait for 30sec. The device should reboot now (it did on the Lynx version and did not on the Booxtor). Afterwards you just use a file explorer allowing to change permission to RW and copy the fonts you want in the folders I mentionned above. If all this seems foreign to you, please leave your device as is. Rooting and changing permission means it is very easy to delete or change a file that is essential for the proper functionning of the reader. |

I've done a few roots before, so no worries; I'd just like to do it with careful knowledge of the process since I'm not a programmer.
Once I've done this, how would I change to Booxtor's FW? |

There you go. But the best way imho would be to first change the FW, then root, then add the fonts. |

Not that I own T68 or am I any expert but I did read a lot about it and somewhere here it said you need to just create (yes, create yourself as it doesn't exist) folder "fonts" and add to it with no rooting? Don't quote me on that though, I might as well be wrong.

With rooting and copying the fonts in the mentionned folders, you have your own fonts available on both. |

Ah ok, thanks. I'm kind of drooling over it but would have to sneak it past husband as per usual.

Is there a link to towelroot v1? The towelroot site doesn't seem to keep older versions available.
EDIT: Okay, found one, but it seems to do nothing but hang the device. Last edited by Rand Brittain; 08-02-2014 at 11:32 PM. |

Restart the device manually and check (with root checker) if it is now rooted. If you re-read what I said above, the device restarts if you are rooting as a Lynx, and it does not restart on its own if you are rooting as a Booxtor. Just do it manually.
Edit: did it work ? Last edited by aceflor; 08-03-2014 at 12:25 PM. |

EDIT: Huh, rootchecker says I have root? Oh, I have to enable root in ES File Explorer to make it work.
Adding the files to /system/fonts with the others didn't make them appear in the reader app, though. Last edited by Rand Brittain; 08-03-2014 at 05:34 PM. |

Good, you're almost done. You should now see them in the Oreader. You also have to add your fonts to /system/adobe/resources/fonts and you will have them in the OnyxReader.

I realize I'm a bit late, but by far the simplest method to root the T68 (and any other Android-based Boox, I'd assume) is with Cydia Impactor. It's a one-click solution, is portable (does not need to be installed) and is available for Windows, OS X and Linux.
