But now a confession in a sealed envelope has been discovered in the possession of a dead man. And strangely this discovery has come to light now that another young girl has gone missing. Naomi Blake had been Helen’s best friend, and as they were inseparable companions, Naomi was the last person to have seen her alive. Free Today on Amazon UK -Dead Money (A Detective Inspector Paul Amos Lincolnshire Mystery) by Rodney Hobson
' Killiney Court is a secure, heavily-guarded and recently refurbished block of luxury flats, home to a host of quiet and respectable tenants in the midst of peaceful Lincolnshire. But one day the security of the community is shattered. Ray Jones is horrifically murdered in the middle of the night. Who killed him? And how? The block has round-the-clock security, and there are no signs of forced entry. Detective Inspector Paul Amos believes that can only mean one thing. The murderer must be a resident of Killiney Court. Yet all is not as it seems. Ray Jones is a businessman who has collected countless enemies from a lifetime of wheeling and dealing; with such a lengthy list of enemies, finding the murderer seems impossible. 'At the age of 35, Fritz’s career in the SAS has come to an abrupt end. However, the political bigwigs in Whitehall have other plans for him. Using a boring desk job at the Special Insurance Services as a cover, Fritz is the newest member of Whitehall’s most lethal team of hit-men – ‘The Thirteen.’ It is his job to clear up, and cover up, the dirty dealings of the political elite by framing members of the European parliament, silencing nosey journalists and ambushing weapon trades. However, things get personal when his brother-in-law is stabbed by a gang. Returning as The Vengeance Man, Fritz takes matters into his own hands. No one is exempt from his crusade of justice. But a dodgy deal in Dubai and a paedophile ring embedded among a group of senior politicians soon take up all his attention. Can he maintain his cover and keep his cool? Or will the Vengeance Man’s luck finally run out? Free Today on Amazon UK - Strangeways to Oldham (The Belchester Chronicles Book 1) by Andrea Fraser
'Lady Amanda Golightly of Belchester Towers is a person in complete contrast to the stereotypical image of one of her breeding. She is short, portly, and embarrassingly forthright. If she wasn’t calling a spade a shovel, it was only because she was calling it 'trumps'! On a visit to a local nursing home where an old business partner of her father's is residing, she unexpectedly discovers a long-lost friend, Hugo Cholmondley-Crichton-Crump – and stumbles upon murder as well. Installing Hugo in the more civilised and comfortable surroundings of Belchester Towers, the pair turn to sleuthing after Lady Amanda reports her appalling discovery to the local police inspector and is incensed when he treats her as a silly old biddy with an over-active imagination. Her outrage prompts her to teach the impertinent young whipper-snapper a lesson, and she and Hugo (Zimmer frame in tow) embark upon their first investigation, only for murder to become a distressingly frequent occurrence …' UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/Strangeways-...s=accent+press US http://www.amazon.com/Strangeways-Ol...s=accent+press Au, Can -not free |

Here is the August 2014 Samsung Book Deals selection relevant to this thread, excerpted from this post:
Crime Wave [Maggie, PI Mysteries], by Rose Pressey (normally $3.99) - mystery & crime, fiction Publication Date: November 5, 2013 Book Description: USA Today Bestseller Maggie Thomas doesn't know the first thing about being a private eye. She quickly discovers that running her uncle's faltering Miami Beach P.I. agency is nothing like watching detective show reruns. Even the private eye app on her iPhone can't help. With whizzing bullets, car chases, and spandex-clad bodybuilders, Maggie wonders if she's in over her head. Jake Jackson, the dangerously charming cop, thinks Maggie needs to stick to snapping pictures of cheating husbands and leave the detective work to the professionals. The danger escalates when another homicide victim washes up on the shore and now someone wants to stop Maggie from solving the murders. With the help of her knitting needle–wielding, orthopedic shoe–wearing assistant Dorothy Raye, Maggie must solve the case before she's the next victim of this crime wave. |

All of JA Jance's backlist titles are on sale at HarperCollins own website at $1.99 for the ebook through August 12, 2014. You have to use a promo code - see details in the quote below. Link is here: http://www.harpercollins.com/backlistpromotion?
Folks have had some issues with using the hc.com site - you can read about it in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=242348. The thread has some hints on how to deal with the site. Still, this is a pretty good price, and I may tackle filling in a few I am missing. I just got the email about this in my Inbox a few minutes ago, and just checked to see if these were price-matched anywhere, and as of now, the answer is "no" at Kobo US, Amazon US, and BN.com. It would be nice if this changed, so I'll keep an eye out. Quote:

There are 16 books by Peter Robinson available today in the Amazon UK "Kindle Daily Deal" at 99p each. 14 books in his excellent "Inspector Banks" series, a standalone novel, and a short story collection. If you've not previous encountered Peter Robinson, this is a great deal. Unfortunately I already had all the books except one (the short story collection).
