Easy to read, adventure type books required
I like to read simple adventure-type books in other languages. I find anything heavy a drag. No character development necessary. Just simple language and page-turning plots.
For example, I'm reading A Fall of Moondust by Clarke. Zero character development, all-external adventure about a ship trapped on the Moon. I might try the John Carter stuff, and maybe Sherlock Holmes. If you can think of anything low-brow and well-written, let me know! I have a penchant for sci-fi, but war stuff is good too, or espionage, or anything. |

You're looking for simple adventure stories written in other languages? Or you're looking for adventure stories that have been translated to other languages (simple--for the purpose of practicing reading in other languages)?
I'll just let you worry about the "other languages" part ![]() |

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins if you've not seen the film. Technically a young adult book, but an extraordinary page turner.
Also, yes, The Martian's ideal! Graham |

You need to tell us what "other languages" it is that you want to read in, or nobody can possibly help you.

Thanks for the reccomendations. Ive tead the Martian in English but I think it would be hard going in other languages. I dont know why but some books are just easier to read in foriegn langauges than others. Im not sure why. Another example of a book I found easy was Way Station by Simak. Lapped ot up. Dont know why. Other I expect to be fun I find wearisome.

But wouldn't you want to seek out easy-to-read adventures in their native languages? Rather than translations?

If you can read French, try Rocambole ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocambole_%28character%29 ). I read a Norwegian translation ages ago, and liked it a lot. From what I can tell (I don't read French), they are available free here: http://www.ebooksgratuits.com/ebooks.php

Timothy Zahn writes excellent action adventures. Icarus Hunt is especially good.
Also, the X-Wing series was pretty good adventures. I preferred the later books by Aaron Allston. |
