T68 wifi issues
I am having a few issues with wifi on my T68. One is that wifi keeps turning itself off. I can be looking at apps in the play store or doing anything that needs wifi on and wifi randomly turns off. I changed it to never turn off due to network inactivity, but it still turns off.
The other wifi issue I'm having is that the battery level will drop off precipitously at times - I can lose 5% in 5 minutes. These issues are happening with my home wifi and no other devices are having this issue. I did a factory reset hoping to go back to the original firmware version but it seems to have simply wiped data. I don't remember having such bad wifi issues before I upgraded, but my memory isn't always the best. Is anyone having these issues with wifi? |

I just noticed in the stock battery stats it shows Cell standby as the highest usage. Cell standby used 57% of battery and wifi only 5%. That doesn't seem right. Anybody have any ideas? My tablet has LTE and it only shows low Cell standby since I've been home all day.

Mine would turn off wifi after so many minutes of my not using it. However, the wifi stayed on as long as I was using it (downloading apps or whatever). If yours is turning off while you are using it, that's a problem. That battery thing is weird, too. I'd suggest contacting the people you got it from (Arta Tech or Booxstor).

Try selecting a different option, the reselect wifi always on as you want it. I did that and it is my impression that it sorted my wifi issues similar to yours.

What battery thing is strange? The fact that it shows Cell standby or rapidly falling levels? |

I'd better describe my settings for clarification of purpose:
Settings selected from the home screen, on the following screen I select the network option, switch on WiFi an select the menu item below called wireless. Clicking top right hand corner I can now select advanced from the appearing menu. I select keep on during sleep:Always. (Costs a bit of extra power from the battery but what the heck) You can also achieve this from the settings option in the apps drawer. In this instance just click the first item, the one called WiFi. Right top click and you are at the same advanced option as mentioned above Now, from the settings menu in the apps drawer, you can go to the options for display. Choose network activity timeout. Mine is set to: never. What I mean by selecting temporarily another option than the one you ultimately want, is that if at first following the above steps does not lead to the desired result, think of it as switch, or a means of kicking the software into action. Sounds a bit weird I know, but who says machines always do as expected? :-) |

I changed my wifi settings last night and wifi turned itself off while I was doing it. I made all the changes and left it for a few hours and it only used up .3% per hour - not so bad. I used it for a while again and it was ok, no turning off, but when I actually used wifi it still used a lot of battery. There was around 46% battery left and I left it overnight.
When I picked it up earlier today, it was frozen. I thought it must have run the battery down overnight so I plugged it in. It wouldn't turn back on until it was plugged in for 1/2 hour and then it had 60% battery so it had just been frozen. I had to remove the sd card for it to finally stop rebooting. When I used it for a while it again used a lot of battery and started boot looping when I got below 50% battery. It's going back. ![]() I did find something else weird after looking at all the wireless settings though. From Android Wireless &networks settings I went to More..., then Mobile network settings - Data enabled was checked (Enable data access over Mobile network was enabled). I guess that's why I saw high use of cell standby. |

I have been experiencing the same dissapearing wifi. Very frustrating.
And also the freezing when battery level goes below a certain value. I just hope this is not a hardware issue. |

I changed my settings following McGonigle's suggestions. Once I rebooted my t68, the changes stuck. No more random wifi turn-offs. I have also frozen the apps for phone, telephony and messaging. My t68 now boots up more quickly (the difference is definitely noticeable); it even checks my SD card faster than before. I've only had my (latest) t68 since Saturday, but battery life seems a little better (not bad with wifi always on!). And - no boot loops yet (keeping fingers crossed on that one!). Now, I can actually spend more time using my t68 for what I bought it for!

Since the T68 can load apps from GoPS, I'm wondering if Tasker might provide some relief for those having wifi disconnects on the T68. Though it's not overly friendly to use, Tasker let's you set up a variety of conditions to monitor and make changes to system settings accordingly. It seems Financial war got himself banned, but his circumstance of using Folder Sync might be perfect for using Tasker. Tasker supports a number of 3rd party plug-ins, specifically including FolderSync. He might create a timed profile to force wifi on and launch a Folder Sync job. Others might create a profile to continuously force wifi on if turned off when certain apps are open, yet force it off for others to further improve battery savings beyond what the system provides out of the box. I used Tasker on my root NOOK Simple Touch for exactly this reason.
For those seeing cell usage eating battery, this was an issue on the NST too. Disappointing to see it on a T68 with a newer version of Android, but perhaps the old fix will work. In system settings, turn Airplane mode on, then turn wifi [Edit] ON. The system should cease trying to use any radios but wifi and cut down on the Cellular usage. Here again, Tasker can provide very granular control over radio settings if you want to go beyond the system settings. Last edited by bobstro; 09-07-2014 at 06:44 PM. |
