Two suggestions: Background color + zoom in images viewer/editor

Two suggestions for improvement of the editor (or help if those features are already present):
  • Changing background color in image viewer/editor. I ask for it because in a book I'm working, the images are grey watermarks with transparent background, so you can imagine how bad they currently look. If the user had control over the Calibre background color (currently a quite dark grey), it would be great. (If it were through a button in the editor toolbar it would be perfect, as in cases like this one you might need changing it quite frequently, even per image).
  • Zooming capabilities in the image viewer/editor.

The editor is not meant to be a full fledged image editor, it is designed for quick and common touchups. You should either copy paste the image or export it into a proper image editor for serious editing.

OK I perfectly understand you. It's possibly not worth the effort and like always patches (or plugins) are welcomed

Nevertheless just one clarification as reading your answer I have doubts about having explained them well enough. I don't want more image editing capabilities but "just" GUI tweaking options...

Kovid,
If I've understood things, the first request is legitimate and not exclusively relevant to an image editor. He's asking for a means of handling a potential color-on-color display problem. In his case a grey image on a gray background makes it hard to proof any mark-up used on the image. This is roughly equivalent to correcting a white text on a white background display problem. I think as ebooks evolve into color content we might well be seeing more of this type of problem.

The zooming I've got to admit I don't quite understand. The only real use for zooming would be to facilitate exact placement - which is impossible in a reflowable text document. Unless the result is meant to be published only to a single file format.

When viewing images in the Editor is there a way to extract all the jpg images? It would be nice to be able to extract them all to a unique folder. I am doing it now, but one by one.

instead of starting the editor, use 'U' key, to Unpack to snag Images and Fonts....
You can replace those with ones of the same exact name and click 'Rebuild' or simply cancel
