Benefit of using UUID with CC

I've been looking over the forum regarding UUID and have been trying to understand what benefits using UUID with CC provides.

I understand that in using the UUID it make certain that the filename for books on different devices would be identical and this would assist with position syncing on detween devices on apps that allow it (ex: moonreader).

In another thread I believe I understand that it may also assist on devices (particularly mentioned Samsung) where Indexing may be affected.

Apart from this, can anyone advise of any additional benefit that might be seen to using the UUID as opposed to file names such as "Author, Title, (ID)"?

Also, using the UUID ensures that the wireless connection and the content server connection will use the same file name, even on the same device. This avoids name-change problems where a book with name 1 is deleted then re-added using the other channel.

This appears to be a bug with samsung indexing where it gets unhappy with periods (and commas?) in file names.

Similarly to above, if you delete a book off the device then send it again later with different metadata then it might get a new file name. This only matters if you are using a reader app that keeps track of file names for some reason, which many do if only for caching.

The downside of the option is that the file names are unusable in file managers. Don't set the option if you ever want to be able to browse your library using some app other than CC.

Thank you. For my own purpose, I don't see any issue in using the UUID as I don't really browse the files in my library or move them around in such a manner and was thinking that this may be simplest overall.

I was leaning towards making the change, and as I only have slight over 100 books transferred over CC currently, I think I'll make the setting change as it won't be much time spent.

Changing the setting won't rename the existing book files. To rename them you must delete them from CC and resend them. The easiest way to delete all the books is to connect as a wireless device, go to the device view, select all, then delete.

If you want to remember what books are on the device to resend them, before deleting them go to the library view, search for ondevice:true, then set a temp marker. Then after deleting the books, search for the temp marker and resend those books.
