Couple of Calibre questions
(I'm not a techie type person, so please just speak simple english when responding)
I have a calibre on my desktop, but the files all get saved to my external HD. A couple of questions I have are: 1) Since I'm using most of the calibre files/libraries on my external, should I be using the Windows version of calibre or the portable version? 2) Is calibre dependant on flashplayer at all?? because it seems on days where calibre updates and I'm having uber trouble with my flashplayer, that calibre stops responding at all. (example, I updated today, flashplayer is on the absolute fritz but I can't get calibre to let me work on anything because it keeps freezing and giving me a not responding message) in other informations, I recently upgraded to windows 7, so I'm wondering if maybe I'm the only one with these problems??? ![]() |

1) Probably the portable one. Don't quote me on that though
![]() 2) I wouldn't think so, what do you mean by "flash player"? |

And as far as Windows 7 goes, no problem there.

Adobe's flashplayer has been giving me heck ever since version 11.....if the memory load goes above 3k or there's videos and pics on a page, my flashplayer just stops working.

Yeah, Flash could slow down your pc, but IDK why that would make calibre slow

I don't either. I just know that for about a day after I update calibre, (especially since it's usually when my flashplayer is freaking out) my calibre stops working and keeps sending out not responding messages.

Ok, I'm not an expert.
1) So long as calibre finds your library, it doesn't matter which version of the program you use. Being on an external hard disk does not matter in this situation. Even if you move the drive to another computer, you'll just have to install calibre on that system and set the drive path to your library. Once it knows where the library is located, calibre will operate correctly thereafter. 2) Absolutely not. There is no default connection between Flash and calibre. Any such connection is one that you would have had to make by hand, yourself. Both calibre and flashplayer can use a lot of memory and/or processing time when operating. So if they're both working on separate projects, but at the same time (you're multi-tasking), that could account for the slow down. But that should be a relatively short period (minutes to hours, worst case, but not days). |
