PRS-T1 stuck in endless 'Opening Book' loop
Hi,
I wonder if anyone here can help me. I started to install Sonys latest Firmware update to my T1 - Version 1.0.07.05070. But the install didn't complete, it re-started and froze on the 'Opening book' screen. I left it for a bit hoping that the firmware was still installing, but after an hour I had to accept the inevitable - the update had screwed up. I had to cancel out of the updating software as my ereader screen was now constantly re-starting to the 'Opening Screen' screen, but nothing appears in the progress bar, it remains blank, then after about 20seconds it restarts to the same screen. With the constant re-starting, it's simply not connecting to a PC at all. I've tried a soft reset - no luck. Hard reset - no changes in the screen, so I'm pretty sure it didn't take. I've contacted Sony UK and they're suggesting I send it in for repair, I haven't started that process yet hoping that I can fix it myself. I've tried re-installing the firmware using the SD card, but the most recent firmware available is restore-set-1.0.05.11130-us. I;ve had no joy with this, possibly because I had the 1.0.06...whatever follows firmware. I also wanted to ask if the little dot next to the SD card slot is an activity light for the reader, because if it is - I'm fairly sure that my SD card isn't reading. I have to ask you guys........ Have Sony bricked my reader with their update? Should I get it repaired or is it the same price to buy a new one? Sorry for the long post - I was just trying to give you all as much info as possible ![]() |

With my stock T1;
The LED to right of uSD card blinks a little while reader is staring up from off than again starts blinking when covers are loading on home page. It does not blink if no external uSD card is installed. |

Hmm. Mine isn't blinking at all - so the card isn't being read at any point.
We'll that rules out fixing it myself :-( Is it worth me getting Sony to fix it? Or would it be cheaper to simply get a used T2 or a new T3? |

Woohoo! When filling out the repairs form I just realised that I've been looking at the wrong receipt - I was looking at the one for my old PRS-350 ( which ironically died the same way as the T1).
I just found my T1 receipt and I'm still in my extended warranty! Phew. Disaster averted :-). I'll contact the Sony store tomorrow to see about getting a new reader. Thanks for your help guys :-) |

.... if I assume your device is standard (not rooted etc) and fully charged then maybe your sd card got corrupted .. did you try removing the card and doing a soft reset ?

Hi bla
Yes, it wasn't rooted. I tried resetting with the SD card and without it. No joy. I noticed that the sd card wasn't being accessed anyway, the activity light next to the card slot stayed dark whether I had a card installed or not. Anyhow, hopefully this thread will be moot soon, as my extended warranty was still good, my local Sony store sent it off to be fixed. I don't have high hopes about getting it back, but I should get a T3 as a replacement. That's how I ended up with my T1, my 350 died (it froze with the main activity light flashing and simply wouldn't work) and they replaced it with the T1. I have to say, I love my Sony Readers, but they don't seem to last very long - at least for me. |

If you are able to plug your T1 into a computer, move all of the book off of the T1 and see if you can get the T1 up and running. Maybe one of the eBooks is causing the problem.

Reviving this old thread wondering what happened if you're still around?
I have the exact identical issue. Except my firmware actually completed and then it worked for nearly a week until the next time I plugged it into the computer. Right then and there it jumped into this infinite loop you speak of. Same non - rooted device. When I called sony they basically just told me to reset it, then to look on the website for support and if I cant fix it they no longer support it so I cant even send it in for repair. |

Hi marcuslemonis
Alas. My reader was never repairable. I took it to the Sony store, they kept it for a month before saying that it couldn't be fixed :-( Luckily I'd bought the extended warranty, so they gave me a T3 as a replacement. I did try to get another extended warranty plan - just in case, but Sony had just decided to stop making their eReaders, so the warranty wasn't available. I have to say I'll miss my T3 when it eventually dies. Sorry I can't give you any repair advice. Good luck. |
