Free/Bargain Horror in July 2014

A new month, a new thread, I guess.

Subterranean Press has put its e-book editions of three collections by Thomas Ligotti on sale for $2.99 (they're regularly $6.99). The sale price is good through July 7th. The announcement at SubPress' site has links to its pages for each book, which link in turn to purchase information at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.

Ligotti's a cult favorite with a distinctive style, so his work may not appeal to a lot of readers, but it might be worth a look.

Words cannot express how awesome this is. Thomas Ligotti is probably the most important writer of literary horror since H.P. Lovecraft - and yes, that includes Stephen King. To get a crack at these three great collections at such bargain prices, as well as his first fiction in a decade, is beyond marvellous. Anyone reading this, sprint do not walk to your ebook vendor of choice.

There's only one problem with your scenario: I already own them!

. Another problem: they won't take my money... Neither Amazon, Kobo nor B&N will sell them outside the US

Free today: The Turtle Boy by Kealan Patrick Burke. Bram Stoker Award for Best Long Fiction (2004).

Quote:
School is out and summer has begun. For eleven year old Timmy Quinn and his best friend Pete Marshall, the dreary town of Delaware Ohio becomes a place of magic, hidden treasure and discovery. But on the day they encounter a strange young boy sitting on the bank of Myers Pond a pond playground rumor says may hide turtles the size of Buicks everything changes. For it soon becomes apparent that dark secrets abound in the little community, secrets which come cupped in the hands of the dead, and in a heartbeat, Timmy and Petes summer of wonder becomes a season of terror, betrayal and murder.

Ash by James Herbert - 99p at Amazon UK

A few of his other novels been the same price for the last year or so, but this is the first time I've seen Ash go down that low.

This week's one-day sale at Weightless Books is the 2010 edition of The Year's Best Dark Fantasy and Horror for $1.99.
Quote:
We’re celebrating the publication of The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy and Horror 2014 with a one-day 70% off sale on this edition!
Darkness surrounds us. We can find darkness anywhere: in a strange green stone etched with mysterious symbols; at a small town’s annual picnic; in a ghostly house that is easy to enter but not so easy to leave; behind the dumpster in the alley where a harpy lives; in The Nowhere, a place where car keys, toys, people disappear to; among Polar explorers; and, most definitely, within ourselves. Darkness flies from mysterious crates; surrounds children whose nightlights have vanished; and flickers between us at the movie theater. Darkness crawls from the past and is waiting in our future; and there’s always a chance that Halloween really is a door opening directly into endless shadow. Welcome to the dark. You may never want to leave. This inaugural volume of the year’s best dark fantasy and horror features more than 500 pages of dark tales from some of today’s finest writers of the fantastique. Chosen from a variety of sources, these stories are as eclectic and varied as the genre itself.
I read this a few years ago: there's a lot of great stories in there.

Edit: the Weightless site seems to have gone down just after I posted this, so don't be surprised if you get an error message. I'll edit again when it goes back up.

Edit: seems to be back now.

Unsure where to put this so I'm posting in both the Horror & Fantasy threads...

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice has dropped to $1.99 at...
Amazon US | Kobo | B&N | Google | eBooks.com
Quote:
Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly erotic, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force—a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write.
