Free Today on Amazon UK - Stranglehold by J M Gregson
'A young girl is found murdered in a deserted house. She has lain dead for two days, and there are few clues at the scene of the crime to identify her killer. When there is a second murder in the same small community, it becomes obvious that the hunt is for a serial killer, who is certain to kill again. The way the bodies are laid out suggests not only a warped mind -- but someone determined to taunt the police. In the quiet country town of Oldford, a whole community is struck with terror as it waits for the nocturnal killer to strike again. With several suspects, but no motive for the killings, the investigation requires all Superintendent John Lambert insight and expertise. Can he solve the mystery before another innocent girl is murdered? Or will more victims fall prey to the killer’s deadly Stranglehold?' ![]() Thanks, Mort1997. Please forgive the nostalgia induced by this title. Back around 1980, give or take a year, the city of Seattle, or perhaps the city's tourist bureau, sponsored a contest to give Seattle an appealing nickname. It was a wildly popular contest and my losing entry was Fungus Burg. My proposal did receive radio attention and many callers supported it. The citizens were not allowed to vote for the winner. Some privileged persons chose Emerald City to much populist criticism and disgust. I mean, how twee and sentimental! After all, the unofficial state song is Louie Louie (it did not become official because when it came to a vote, it was discovered that the 80-some-year-old author of Washington, My Home was alive and heartbroken). I still cannot see 'Emerald City' without disappointment at my loss in the contest. Fungus Burg is more accurately descriptive and in line with the general attitudes of the citizens. ![]() Last edited by BelleZora; 07-01-2014 at 01:45 PM. |

July 2014 Samsung Book Deals selection (accessible only via the Kindle for Samsung app):
The Russian Donation [Dr. Hoffman, #1], by Christoph Spielberg (Author) & Gerald Chapple (Translator) (normally $4.99) - mystery & crime, fiction, medical novel Book Description Publication Date: January 22, 2013 Doctor Felix Hoffmann’s life is textbook success: a seasoned physician at a Berlin hospital, respected by colleagues, and devoted to his amorous and intelligent girlfriend Celine. It’s a life filled with medical work, televised soccer games, and the chill of German beer. Yet, when a former patient shows up dead by causes unknown, Hoffmann signs a death certificate that may be his own. Curiosity and sheer medical devotion propel him to investigate. However, his autopsy order goes unfulfilled as the body is cremated and hospital records vanish. Soon, Hoffmann discovers a diagnosis of conspiratorial proportions. The deeper he scans, the darker it gets, until a criminal clue emerges from Russia. Despite adversity, Hoffmann is determined to sleuth through with his own brand of logic and the aid of Celine’s powers of deduction. |

On sale for $1.99: The Pot Thief Who Studied Pythagoras (The Pot Thief Mysteries # 1) by J. Michael Orenduff.
Kobo (Couponable): http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebo...ied-pythagoras Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HO12CTK Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/books/...d=lRJ7AgAAQBAJ B&N: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-...=9781480458529 I read this recently when I spent a week in Albuquerque. The New Mexico city is a character in this book as much as Louisiana is a character in James Lee Burke 'Robicheaux' series or Los Angeles is a character in Michael Connelly's books. Orenduff is an enthusiastic fan of Lawrence Block's 'Bernie Rhodenbarr the burglar' series, so if you are also, but have read all the Bernie books, you will feel right at home with the Pot Thief series. Another hint: this book will make you hungry for New Mexico food. I'm sure I gained weight every day that I read this book. In fact, I resorted to reading it in various Albuquerque restaurants to save time. |

Sufue thank you for posting the Open Road sale.
![]() I've just checked Kobo India (as you suggested) and found that they still have their AUD 3 cent sale on for at least one author, and 5 cents and 49 cents and so on ..... The 3 cent author is Lawrence Block. The 5 cent authors appear to be childrens or young adult mysteries. The 83 cent mysteries include authors who are in the public domain and those who are not in the public domain eg Arthur Conan Doyle, Louis Joseph Vance, Anne Perry. The publisher details are: Imprint: MysteriousPress.com/Open Road Oh, and don't forget they're all discountable!! ![]() ![]() Be interested to hear if anyone finds other publishers on similar bargain basement sale ![]() Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 07-01-2014 at 07:38 PM. |
