How scratch resitant is a kobo touch screen?
Having never owned an ereader how scratch resistant is the screen? I did try to put a poundland screen protector on but it just ended up with bubbles and a piece of hair underneath
![]() Just wondering if it is even worth bothering ? Will be in a rucksack a lot when commuting Thank you |

Put it in a good case instead. The screen doesn't scratch particularly easily in normal use, but the glass substrate will break in a backpack, leaving you with a useless device.

I've had a Kobo Touch for several years, and the screen still looks good as new. I can't see any reason why it should become damaged through normal use.

I own both a Sony PRS-950 and a Kobo Aura HD. After using the Sony for a while, I noticed its screen had tiny scratches on it, so I put a screen protector on it. When I bought the Kobo, I decided to put a screen protector on it from the beginning so it wouldn't get scratched, but the bubbles bothered me so much I took it off after a week. I've used the Kobo every day for more than a year now, and the screen looks as good as new. I'm really picky about stuff like this, and I am very impressed with the durability of the Kobo's screen.

Scratches are a secondary concern in this case. You want something rigid to carry it in when it's in a rucksack because twisting will break the glass substrate and kill your reader. A cover may work, but if you can twist it (without the reader in it) you're still a broken screen waiting to happen. A cover will help prevent sharp objects/corners from scratching or point impact breakage, but not from twisting (which you normally don't need to worry about with a phone, tablet, etc. due to their more rigid case and thicker screen.
FWIW I've never had issues with scratches from normal usage, but I keep mine in a wooden case for transport purposes. Never had a cover on any of mine. |

Don't use things like your keys to turn pages, and don't drop your keys on the screen. On a used 350 I bought the screen had scratches all over it and a deep gouge in the glass like someone used it for a key tray. Yes, if you drag any metal or rough edges over the glass, you're going to get scratches. Just like on any glass surface.
Just use your finger to turn pages like you should and it'll be fine. My readers still have pristine screens, even one that's 4 years old. You can't really use a screen protector on an infrared screen without issues, just keep them in a cover and they'll remain scratch free. |

I have an Aura and I bought this after the first week:
http://www.geckocovers.com/screenpro...kobo-aura.html Been using it ever since and I have no issues with screen responsiveness. I have no bubbles and I think it even helps, in the Aura, to not notice the scratch like pattern on the top of the screen. I'm not sure how it works for the Touch, but one thing is for sure, I feel much safer using my Kobo without it's cover around the house and that should count for something. |

Worst scratches I have ever seen on a touch screen was at Home Depot. Looked as if they were using screw drivers to operate the touch screen.
To operate Kobo IR touch screen use finger or anything that will interrupt IR light beam and not damage screen. No special stylus needed. Keep edges of screen clean to prevent debris blocking IR light. |
