1 Decide how you want to mark: Y/N, a Date, A star rating...
2) Create a custom column of the appropriate type: eg: Read (lookup name: read) NB you don't start Lookup names with a #, but you use the # everywhere else to refer to it eg #read 3) Populate it |

Alternately...
Since I have no interest in having someone else's ratings in my library, I avoid inputting any ratings when adding new books. This leave the ratings field blank. I simply rate the books when I finish reading them. I have a simple saved set of "virtual libray" entries that display either unrated (rated=0, unread) or rated>0 (read) to allow me to display either. I can also simply click the Rating header to sort the library by rating with the Unread (rating = none) listed first. |

I just add a Read tag to the book and have Calibre set to mark the text for books with that tag red.

You can set up column coloring rules under Preferences->Look and Feel->Interface on the Column coloring tab.

Merrilyn-s,
I believe AnemicOak literally adds the tag word "Read" into the tag column. Then he uses column coloring rules: Preferences>Column Coloring tab>Add Rule and fills out things as needed for what he wants displayed. Probably: All Columns, Red, Tags, Has, Read. BTW, there are many different ways that something like a "Book has been read" column could be added. That is why theducks stated you should consider how you wanted the column to look. Because what you might want with such a column might differ from what others want from that column. For instance, I find a "Read" column somewhat useless. I prefer a "Read Date" so that I know the date when I last read the book. I augment that with a "My Rating" column with stars to indicate how I re-acted to the story. (I keep the official "Rating" column for metadata downloads and compare my ratings to others). |
