Eink Refresh frequency

From K4, the screen refreshes every 6 pages(although you can disable it), but for K3, it is still refreshed every page,I am wondering is this due to the fact that Amazon stopped support K3(software wise), so they don't want to spend time on it and hope you can move oto new model or Eink technology in K3 is not good enough to refresh every page?

There simply hasn't been a software update, because it is quite old and Amazon doesn't support it anymore.

so it is more software/support thing instead of Eink technology capacity in K3,right?

Is there any way around to set refresh every 6 pages without root?

Thanks

I'm on DX which refreshes every page and I now have trouble seeing it, even if I'm consciously looking for it. The brain edits it out after a few hours use apparently.

Strangely, if I'm reading near a mirror, I catch it out of the corner of my eye in the mirror.

When I read those thick books, I use dx too.but on dx,the screen is bigger,so, I don't turn page as often as k3.so those refresh freq is less annoying .

I love dx! So beautiful

What's odd, when I read on the K3 (since sold), I didn't even notice the flicker. Or, if I noticed it, it didn't bother me. And I was used to using the Nook and the Kindle 4, both of which have the six page refresh feature.

I can believe the bit about the mirror. I've got a formerly mistreated Kindle Touch with a spot in the middle of the screen (where something was dropped on it) and that doesn't bother me in the least, but the scrapes on the bezel (in my peripheral vision) do bother me.

That vaguely calls to mind something I was taught, many eons ago, in human biology class: that the eye sees light better if you look just to the side of it. Something to do with there being strong light perceptors (are they rods or cones, I can never remember which is which?) in one corner of the retina.

But that was "centuries" ago, so don't quote me.

Hah! I quoted you!

Yup, the fovea, right in the middle of the line of vision, has only cones (colour perception, work best in bright light), no rods (dim light/movement). This is why you have to look just to the side of the spot you want to look at, if you want to see very very dim stars.

They've been on Craigslist here. Not as common as the black ones, I don't think. They also sell them on eBay ...

I know that when I had some of the older Kindle models that allowed you to set the refresh frequency, I found that a refresh every few pages was much more distracting that a refresh every page. When the refresh happens every page, your brain just filters it out.

With the improved eInk waveform on the Paperwhite, it's a complete non-issue; the refresh, when it happens, is pretty much invisible.

I agree with Harry. Refresh every page never bothers me -- I don't even notice it.
