Generate cover in Edit Metadata Individually?

Is there a way to put your own cover image in as a replacement for the standard cover image that Calibre adds if you click on 'generate cover' for a book that you can't find a cover for by clicking on 'download cover'?

I do have that plug in yes, but when I am adding covers to several individually using the "edit metadata individually" function I can't access that plug in. I'd have to stop where I was in the list of books and access that via the main menu. When I click on the "generate cover" button while in "Edit Metadata Individually" though it puts the calibre logo on the book. I was wondering if there is a way to change that image other than using the generate cover plug in, which as I said requires me to stop downloading covers for the rest of the books that I'm trying to give new covers to.

You can drag and drop any other image there. :

bulb2: Have a generic TBD cover handy (desktop) that you initially use when you do not find the get metadata. Then later you can easily spot them in Grid view: you can use alternate ways to get/make covers. eg:Search the internet for images, The Generate cover PI...

@crich70 - Suggestion : if download does not yield a satisfactory cover then instead of clicking on 'Generate cover' in metadata edit, click on 'Remove (cover)'.

Then after processing the list of books deal with coverless books via search "cover:False".

For those books you could widen the download sources and search for covers only, search for images directly, roll your own via the PI, make one with an image editor etc etc.

Probably so. I was just wondering if there was a way to replace the cover (with books on it) that calibre has when you click on that button but still keep the title of the book & author printed on it. Not a biggie to have to do the covers later for those, just wondered if there was a way to tweak that image file.

Probably the same way you replace Icons with Alternates
(the configuration directory)resources\images\library.png (the default is 544x499)

@chich70 - Ahh yes you can do that too

The image used in making standard default covers is C:\Program Files\Calibre2\resources\images\library.png, if you pop an image into your config ...\resources\images folder with the same name ie library.png, then it will be used instead of the default one.

Thanks for the help. I'd downloaded some 700+ free (PD) ebooks from Diesel ebooks a long while back and they didn't have proper covers on them, so I'm going back over them and giving them some. And some metadata so I can make a catalog of the collection I have.
