Kobo Aura HD - No PDF Reflow - Should I return device?
Hi guys I obviously didn't do enough research before purchasing the Aura HD and ignorantly assumed it would have reflow as I have many pdf scans that I would like to view and unable to do so on the Aura HD.
What would you guys recommend I do to be able to use reflow so I can read my pdfs? A. Take it back and exchange for another device - If so what device handles re flow best? B. Mob Aura HD with Koreader or cool reader - If so what option is best and how do I do this as I am a complete noob with ereaders. Thanks guys ![]() |

Koreader is the better choice for PDF viewing on the AuraHD. A guide using the Start Menu The AuraHD is of a better size and a higher resolution than most readers, making them a more viable for PDF viewing. Oh and it does crop and reflow. Just start with step 6 of the guide, above.

And, of course, the mods won't reflow pdfs that are image scans. They will need to be OCR'd and proofed first.

Hi Ken that looks rather complicated but will give it a go. What is OCRd and proofed?
Thanks |

That's not correct. Koreader *will* reflow PDFs that are image scans. This might sound strange at first, but thanks to willus' k2pdfopt (in Koreaders case, the library version), that usually works just fine. In fact, this OCR-based approach is the only reflowing approach implemented.

Just from seeing how the reflowed text looks, I would guess that there is no OCR involved at all. The advantage is that the reflow works independent of the language or the script or the font style, as long as there are recognisable gaps between the words, or shorter units in some languages. The other advantage is that characters cannot be identified incorrectly, because they are not identified at all.

Oh, I shouldn't have used "OCR", since it isn't exactly character recognition. It's word and layout recognition. It in fact isn't identification at all, and no rewriting takes place. It's "restitching" of the pages content. Like with scissors and glue :-)

Ive managed to install Koreader but it appears to be cutting off some text on my books. Maybe it would be best to crop the books. Anyone know of the width height ppi to crop pdfs for the kobo aura hd so I can crop them to size?

The various menu options let you adjust almost any of them so that they are easily navigated and read. For some you may need to make some adjustment to a number of options and find the best interaction for them. I guess you would start with the gear tab in the bottom menu and set reflow and maybe word gap. You will probably have to reset the font size after turning reflow on. Then I would go to the top menu second tab from the left and set/switch zoom mode. Then back to the bottom menu and the third tab from the left to select page margin and line spacing. Last might be the second tab from the left for Page Crop, (Auto or Semi-auto have been all I ever needed). Just tapping the screen moves me through the reflowed pages of scanned manuals and magazines. FM4-25 the First Aid manual is a good example of a well scanned PDF, that looks great on the AuraHD. The large number of illustrations look fantastic. Army Manuals mostly in PDF Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 06-13-2014 at 09:23 AM. |

My Sony T1 has pdf reflow also Sony T2 and T3. If you can find one for sale. Reflow helps sometimes but not always.
Pocket Book and Onyx BooK readers also have pdf reflow. These are sold in Europe. Bigger screen size reduces or eliminate text reflow problems. Eink now makes 32" displays for signs not readers. http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...aper-displays/ |
