Hi Sorry if this is really simple and I am asking a question that makes people groan and roll their eyes
![]() I have just bought a new computer, This computer is a 64 bit, with windows 8 the old one was 32bit vista. Ive downloaded calibre 64bit on to the new one, do i just transfer my calibre library backup file or what is it i need to do to transfer my library from one to the other? I appreciate any help on the matter as I am going grey trying to figure out how to move files from one computer to the other, anyone who knows how public files work and what name and password they are asking for, who can pass on this knowledge to me it would be greatly appreciated (I'm fairly certain my family would be thankful) ![]() Amanda |

Just getting books is easy - copy your library folder to your preferred location, then open calibre and point it to it (switch/create library > use existing library in new location).
Getting all your settings and custom columns over is a bit more difficult. Some (maybe even all) are in configuration directory (preferences > miscellaneous), but there may be some under Programs/Calibre too (don't know, never had Vista) or somewhere else. Won't hurt to make global search for anything Calibre and compare folders in both computers. I changed my HDD some few years ago and got all tweaks and settings and columns into new Calibre setup ok (like, .json files are plugins IIRC). |

The configuration folder is IT After the copy, Don't Panic if you don't immediately see books when you first start: a user may need to use create/switch to point to the new location of the copied Library. |

Go to Preferences ==> Advanced ==> Miscellaneous and click the button "Open calibre configuration directory". Copy the entire contents of that folder into a backup.
Do the same on the new computer, but instead of copying them, close calibre and then delete all files from the new computer's configuration, and replace them with the backed-up folder contents. They should be similar to this folder list from my install (folders end with a "/" ): Code:
alfcrypto/ conversion/ customize.py device_drivers_KINDLE2.py dolderlist.txt dynamic.pickle edit-book-dynamic.pickle fonts/ global.py gui.json gui.py history.plist iterator.pickle metadata_sources/ plugins/ save_to_disk.py search_replace_queries.json server.py server_access_log.txt server_error_log.txt shortcuts/ tweak_book_gui.json tweaks.py viewer.json |
