Pocket Premium for 5$ a month - is it worth it?
Pocket has started Premium subscription service for $5/month or $44.99/year.
I started using Pocket only recently, and I like it. I don't know if this is happening only with me and I am doing something wrong, but since they introduced Premium service I am no longer able to save pages as articles i.e. only links get saved. My previous articles are all there. So, do you think it's worth subscribing? Will you do it? I am seriously considering if $44.99/year for permanent archive is a bit too much? I don't think it's worth it. I fully understand they want to better monetize their product, especially as it seems to have won the "war" against other similar apps. But I am dead against the newer trend in monthly fees, and Pocket just does not do enough to warrant such an investment.

I love Pocket and have tons of articles saved but I don't use it much anymore and certainly wouldn't consider paying a subscription for it.

I looked into archiving articles and websites earlier this month.
You want to stay away from automatic tagging. It causes you to not put a lot of effort into it initially, and you end up tagging 10+ things to everything. This makes it hard to manage later on. You then have a 50,000+ tag cloud, and it'll be either very complex/vague and "un-human". Evernote has search, and it's free. You can make a few Notebooks, clip with a bookmarklet, or send PDF copies to it, and mark them up. Or you can just copy and paste stuff. If you like Pocket, keep using it, but look into the IFTTT actions that you can use with it and Evernote and some of the other services: https://ifttt.com/connect/pocket/evernote |

I wouldn't pay anything for it.
Perhaps they should pay me? ![]() |

All this is is a new feature. I am perfectly happy with the way I've been using Pocket so far, and am not afraid of dying links.
+1 Pocket for finding what seems to be a very reasonable freemium strategy. But I don't need the extras. ![]() From the article: Quote:

I wouldn't pay $5 a month. maybe $5 a year if they had something like tabs and sorting etc. Still I like pocket for recipes.

I wouldn't pay for it. It's a useful app but I don't use that much to justify paying a subscription.

I really don't use it much. When it was first offered on the Kobo, I used it and saved some articles. For me, the newness has died and it just wouldn't be worth the subscription price.

I mainly use pocket for the weekly email: here's what other users are saving to pocket. I've found some great articles this way. Otherwise, I'm not offline enough to take advantage of it.

I used pocket and really liked it, but now I just save as a PDF in Firefox. The $5 monthly fee wouldn't be worth it to me.

I love Pocket but I really don't want to archive articles. The only exception to that might be articles from the London Review of Books but I doubt I'll let my subscription run out any time soon. It will probably be worth their while if 0.1% of users pay. LastPass do something similar where all the most important features are free but some useful ones are premium features.
