New feature or ?

I downloaded a book from Manybooks,it is a epub version and no DRM. I connected my kindle to laptop, I thought I should first covert to Mobi format from Epub and send to kindle. but I mistakenly click send to main device without convert first, then Calibre asked me whether I should convert first before send and I click yes, then I found I can read it in my kindle. Is this correct way to send Epub books to kindle? or just because the book I sent is non DRM version,so it can do it? I googled and everyone said I need covert first by Calibre and copy to kindle folder.

Thanks

Calibre has always (well, for quite some time in my memory) offered that option if you ask it to send a book that doesn't have the right format.

I still have old LRF books from the earliest Sony Readers, and every once in awhile this pops up when I try to send it to my Pocketbook (which reads ePubs).

If you are sending a book to your Kindle email address I think it is automatically converted. I could be remembering wrong though as I usually use Send to Kindle and my books are already in Mobi format.

so I dont need covert first at all? I download some classic books from Project gutenberg and Manybooks, some of them are epub format,I certainly can read them in my kobo, but I have 9.7'' dxg, so I prefer to read them in kindle.

Thanks

You are converting it when you click "Yes" to the question "do you want to convert to Mobi first". You don't have to do the conversion as a separate step.

Some people prefer to do the conversion first so they can preview the results on their computer and tweak things to suit their preferences. It's entirely your choice.

Ok,so convenient !

Just double check if ePub has DRM,I cannot do this, right?
My local library(toronto public library) only support ePub,I believe those books have drm(only read in kobo now)

And also because you can quickly put them on, after having run the sometimes lengthy conversions (especially with dozens of books) overnight.

And because if the job crashes, you can always search for {not formats:"=azw3"} and reconvert the batch. Whereas you may have to carefully reselect every book on your reading list if the job crashes during the conversion. Doesn't usually happen, but I got this once. Never hurts to be safe.
