software-related - re. converting images in books to Icarus Excel.

I have a Kindle, and we just got an Icarus Excel (9.7" device) to have as a large-format e-ink device. But graphs, tables, and other images, like mathematical symbols, don't increase in size upon conversion using Calibre. They're the same size in the larger device as they are on the 6" Kindle.

Has anyone out there found a best format to convert to for this device? Is it even possible to scale images so they make full use of available display real-estate?

which is the source format you want to convert from and which format you are aiming for?

We started with a generic .MOBI file, and the best of the conversions we tried was to the larger Pocketbook format -- 825 x 1200 pixels. Images still not making good use of available screen real estate.

hmm.. interesting. Try reading it as it is on the icarus excel... it CAN read mobi so there should be no problem

also try going from mobi to pdf on calibre... adjust the settings!... it could help you going for pdf

be aware of the settings of "pdf out" in calibre... there's a thing that will keep pdfs from getting proper size (check the manual out... read epub to pdf conversion in calibre also)
