Prevent Downloading of Library when syncing?

Is there a way to prevent the downloading of books when syncing your Kobo?

A friend had a very large Sony library that was migrated to Kobo. She really doesn't want to have the entire 1800 books on her Aura, but is also having difficulties transferring books via drag and drop.

Is there a setting that will allow the Kobo to just down load the titles of the books in your library and let you choose which ones to download, rather than removing the ones that you don't want to keep?

I hope my question makes sense.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Not sure how it works with the transferred library, but with current firmware it only downloads your 5 "most recent" books and puts the titles of the rest on the device when you do a factory reset/initial setup. It **might** treat the transferred books as new purchases in which case that might be why they are trying to download.
It might also be possible to get around this with the Kobo desktop, but it will likely download them all to their computer.
