Unhappy Blarg! Help! My KT won't connect!

Hi everyone!

I'm new here so please let me know if this isn't in the right place.

I'm looking for some help with my Kobo Touch. I've had it for 2.5 years and it has worked smoothly until about 2 months ago.

I'm not sure when it exactly happened as I don't plug it into my computer that often, but for some reason my the two devices won't recognize each other any more. The computer WILL charge the Kobo, but it doesn't show up in the device list or give me the notification that it's plugged in so I also can't safely eject it. Which also means that Kobo Desktop also doesn't see it.

We've tried turning off our firewall to see if that was the issue and it didn't do anything.

I've read that I could try partitioning the microSD card that is inside it? I'm pretty good with troubleshooting and computers but the Kobo is something I've never fiddled with. Has anyone else tried this?

My computer is running Windows 8.1.

I recently reset my Kobo to the factory settings thinking that maybe it was an update that buggered it up, and that didn't work.

I have a brand new cable (Kobo brand) and have 4 USB ports on my computer, two are USB3 and two are USB2. I've plugged it into all of them and nothing. I've tried different cables and nothing.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm open!

Or is it a case of I'm SOL and just buy a new one?

I think it may be a Windows 8.1 issue, try searching the forum for other posts with Windows 8.1...

Thanks so much! I'll do that. I also noticed at the same time that my kobo stopped being recognized, my phone did too

Hopefully this is it!
