Question epub Expiration

Hello...

Does anybody know how I could go about adding an expiration to an epub file that I already have?

I'm working on self-publishing in epub format and would like to have a trial version of my book that users can download and read for a short while...

Does epub support JavaScript? If so I could write my own custom script to do the job...

There is no support for JavaScript in ePub 2. You would need DRM to implement any sort of time limit which is a different but important question. DRM from Adobe is too costly for self publishers I am afraid. I suggest you just post a sample of the book for people to use for a trial and then sell them the full book. Or you could withhold some other feature to get them to buy it.

The success of such schemes depends on your relationship to your readers. Science Fiction readers, serious ones, go to conventions, etc and want to support their author so he/she will crank out more of it.

If it about computers, I don't think any such relationship is likely.

If you want to be serious about self-publishing, dive into the format more first. It will help you get a better product and you will know what is possible and what not.
