Android rootable and available at ebay India
I broke my Sony PRS-T1, which had been playing up for a while to be honest, and am currently travelling India (then SE Asia) for an indeterminate amount of time and need a replacement so I can keep up reading without buying and logging around big, heavy paper books!
Requirements: Android Rootable (see below) MicroSD card slot (16GB capable at least.) Available with quick lead time from in India, so from amazon.in or ebay.in (although Amazon seems to do nothing but Kindle, and only the old version, in this country!) E-Ink or similar screen for easy reading and long battery life. Would be nice to have: Lit screen. Why do I want Android rootable? Aardict with offline Wikipedia (which I have already downloaded although it always crashed my T1 for some reason) and QuickDic dictionaries for Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Vietnamese, Laos etc etc dictionaries for my travels. No lit screen but the Sony PRS-T2 is available on Ebay. I think it has been Rooted from my quick reading... I have no idea about Kobo or the plethora or other eReaders available and my internet connection here is VERY bad (I get to load about three or four pages and then often lose connection for 5-10 minutes) so really can not do the research myself right now! Suggestions and comments very much appreciated. |

I don't recommend a Sony-T1 or T2 as a rooted e-ink reader. I rooted the T1 and found it pretty poor and limited. Indeed, later versions of the T2 firmware are unrootable.
If you can get it, the Nook STR makes a very robust e-ink tablet, but it has no front-light. Europe / Russia / China produces a number of alternatives that are / may be rootable. Some are even open Android out-of-the-box. Last edited by Rizla; 04-17-2014 at 07:39 AM. |

AFAIK there are only e-readers available here - Kobo and Kindle
Buy kindle from amazon.in and or kobo from here (though wouldn't recommend it seeing the feedback; would be better if you buy it locally) |

T2 from Ebay [ebay link removed[
All I had found before posting and as I said I know nothing about Kobo models... Also, Indian Amazon is only shipping the old version of the Kindle, even though the new version has officially been released here earlier this year! (At least for the Paperwhite 3G, which I was initially looking at.) Last edited by pdurrant; 04-18-2014 at 05:45 AM. |

(My post isn't displayed for me to edit it and add this in the same post so no option but double post.)
The person seems to have a fair few eReaders for sale actually, including a few Nooks (which is another name I'd seen and forgotten but no little about) and generally quite good seller rating. [ebay link removed] Last edited by pdurrant; 04-18-2014 at 05:46 AM. |

How are they irrelevant to the thread when I'm asking what i can buy in India and the link is to about the only indian seller on ebay who sells a variety of ereaders i could chose from?!?! Should i write down the name of every item he has listed instead??? Did you read the thread? Or understand i started it? You decision strikes me as very bizarre!!!

So i create a thread asking what is the best ereader to but on indian ebay yet a link to the only seller i have found on ebay who provides a fair variety of options for sale on indian ebay and this is considered not relevant to the thread. Can you please explain to me how that makes any sense whatsoever. Or why it is ok for other people to link to different ebay sellers on exactly the same thread, but not me, who started the thread and am the one who initially wanted help with this! How can i get help if i cant even mentioned the best looking places to buy from ive managed to find?! List each and every item they have for sale? That will be great fun! Especially posting from a phone!!

Moderator Notice We have enormous problems with spammers posting to MobileRead. New members trying to post links to commercial operations (e.g. eBay sellers) will be treated with deep suspicion. By all means ask about what device would be best for your needs, but to expect to get useful info about who is a reliable reseller on eBay from here is unrealistic. |

Did I ever ask about reliability? No! I only mentioned it in passing because Hitesh1 mentioned the rating of the person selling in the link he provided, and mentioned that this guy had a better one as he might also be interested as he assumedly is from India. I wanted to know which of the items he stocked (being the ONLY seller I had found with a fair variety available) would be best. But as you removed the link nobody could look at what he was selling!!! You really should read threads more carefully when moderating! Last edited by kazakore; 04-20-2014 at 07:51 AM. |

Update: Fairly sure I will go for a Kobo Glo, unless anybody can tell me a reason not to. Although having issues ordering as seems I can't use my UK bank card on Indian Ebay... Thanks to those who helped in any way
![]() Edit: Although I could still be persuaded to go with the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight if you can persuade me it's enough better for my needs to be worth it... ![]() Last edited by kazakore; 04-20-2014 at 08:07 AM. |

The original nook glo light is prone to light blotches. The Nook STR has a clearer screen.
Some people find the kobo glo light is too bright in a pitch black room. The PW2 has a better light but has harder to customise fonts than the kobo. |

I don't think there should be any problem with using UK bank card.
You can use "WELCOMECD4" coupon to get 500 inr discount on ebay India. |
