G'day from Australia via Kuwait.

G'day.

I'm a Water Engineer from Australia who usually works overseas, hence the greeting from Kuwait.

I have recently "discovered" the wonders of ebooks.

Getting something decent to read in the different corners of the world in which I work has always been a problem, stupidly had not considered e-books, possibly because readers have only recently been available. So have purchased a Sony 505 via eBay for the US and had it sent to my home address. My wife, bless her, is in the process of sending it on to me here in Kuwait.

Of course I have now discovered Sony are being their usual selves and won't let me purchase books from their site, lacking, as I do, a US credit card. So more fool them they have lost another customer, I will get my reading material elsewhere and convert if necessary. Am busy reading about my options in that regard.

I must admit to being surprised at how little you folks who live in the USA seem to pay for your books when I compare the prices I see being asked for books with those that I have to pay at home, in Europe and all the other countries I have worked or travelled in or through.

Craig.

Welcome Craig from nearby

Glad to hear from another Aussie close by. This forum is pretty good there are lots of things to learn, and heaps of help available.
As far as buying books from the States is concerned There is a contributor Leaping Gnome, who has helped me and others in this regard. If you contact him through the forum he may assist.
Conversion is also easy by using the conversion tools available on this site see the forum about the libprs500 by kovidgoyal in E-Book Devices | Sony Portable Reader.
There are some other tips and tricks for easy conversion from LIT etc.
I am coming through Kuwait on leave to Aus later this month, so if you want to contact me please feel free.
Incidentally the Sony Bookshop will not connect throgh a proxy server and the Sony Help section should be renamed the helpless section or perhaps the hopeless section. But they are releasing the Reader in England later this year I believe, so things might improve, purchasewise and helpwise.

Cheers

John

G'Day Craig and welcome to the Forum. Don't know why Sony makes it so hard for an Aussie to do business with them. Apart from dealing with Sony, I do like the reader a lot. Good luck
