I buy quite a few ebooks, mainly from Amazon and some from Kobo. Even though I had bad experiences with Amazon and Kobo hardware, I still feel a more confortable reading experience from an ebook reader than from a tablet or a pc.

Since I do not want an ebook reader "tied" to an ebook seller, I wonder if any of you has had a meaningful experience with the Pocketbook in conjunction with Calibre.

Thank you for your input.

PocketBook an Calibre work together very well. Do you have any specific questions or worries?

If Pocketbook and Calibre did not work well together, I should have to look at some other solution.

Since that does not seem to be the case, my main concern shall be how Calibre will handle conversion for my Amazon and Kobo books.

Any suggestions based on experience will be gratefully acknowledged.

As long as you have downloaded material in epub format from Kobo there should be no issue. You will have the standard Adobe DRM to contend with but Apprentice Alf integrates nicely with calibre.

On the other hand if you have the books in kEpub format, then Alf does include a script (Obok I think) that will remove the Kobo DRM and let you access a version that should work as epub but just contains many <span> sections that are used by the Kobo ACCESS engine as a part of their bookmark support.
